Annual, prostrate herb with slender, branched stem. Stipules in pairs, appressed to stem, leaf-like, mucronate or subacute at apex, hastate at base, 2.5 x 4 cm. Leaves reduced to tendrils. Flowers 1-2, on a long peduncle, creamy- or pale-yellow. Pods linear-oblong, 2.5-5 cm long, 4-6-seeded, beaked, glabrous.

This is Lathyrus aphaca Linn., Sp. Pl. 729; known as Jangli Matar.

This species is very common in cultivated or fallow fields in the our area (Haryana).
