This appears to be the opium poppy plant but I do not know whether the pink petals are representing the typical condition. I have seen white petals in photographs shown to me. I have seen hundreds of raw and dried specimens of the whole plant and plant parts which were coming to us from all over West Bengal for identification, seized by the police and customs dept. from illegal cultivations (banned under NDPS Act. 2008).

Thanks, …, for the initial Id.
I also think these matches with images at Papaver somniferum

Papaver Species seen at a cultivated garden in July,2017.

seems to be opium poppy

Thanks … Resembles one I had seen in Kashmir, different colors though.

ya. has several colors where its still grown, like in gardens in Europe and USA and UK. etc.
in bengal rarely seen now, but still some crop up here and there in neglected areas, from the times of the opium wars and plantings by some prominent families who made their extensive fortunes and zamindaris in the opium trade and later wars with china…. many of those names we revere today had their start in illicit trades !!! including opium.
so revered in fact that i would not want to name them here.  BUT, Apparently there are prohibitions here to planting them in farms etc.
i wonder where do we get the poppy seeds in the bazaar then?
those flowers in deep jungles now are often white or creamy white or yellow.

Common poppy flower ?

Thanks … Hope to get the Species id.

species name: Papaver somniferum
i thought you would know that.
