Red Pineapple / Ananas comosus – Flora of Goa: Photographed this Ananas comosus in Goa, in a garden, back in Dec 2008.
I dunno if it’s different from common
Ananas or it’s same, just red in colour.

Beautiful pics and for me they are special as I am seeing the flowers for the first time. Thanks a lot.

Yes I have also never seen the flowers.
Good pictures indeed.

Is it the same ananas that we eat?

I guess I got lucky to see those Pineapples flowers.
…, I searched and found that this is Ananas bracteatus and not Ananas comosus (as I wrote earlier)
and It originated from Brazil. Also dat d ripe fruit is edible, but it is smaller and less fleshy than common pineapples
U can see more pics I found on this blog –

I think it is Ananas bracteatus (Lindl.) Schult. & Schult.f. (an ornamental plant) as per comparative images at Ananas

Ananas ¿ bracteatus ?
Dear friends,
Glancing through eFI, the posted plant looks like Ananas bracteatus; please validate.

I hope you have already checked comparative images at

Yes … I noticed some posts where you have suggested Ananas bracteatus. Now I am not sure why I was not confident while labelling the pictures.

I am going with Ananas bracteatus. Thank you very much.

Closest I can go is Ananas bracteatus (Lindl.) Schult. & Schult.f. as per comparative images at Ananas
But I did not see serrated leaves here compared to those in efi site.
Are such variations there in this species ?

May I request you to check good descriptions available on net in this regard.
