The ID is correct. In fact I have these plants grown in my garden.   The leaves look like drumstick (vegetable).

I do agree with them, It is an ornamental plant nearly 1 m tall, the indigenous species will be 1-2 feet and relatively thin, dark green

Pl. find the attached file contain photos for id. request.
Location: NBNP Garden, Anaikatti, Coimbatore (640 MSL)
Date: 25.06.2012
Habitat: Garden
Habit: Shrub.

It seems to be Genus Sansevieria, probably S.cylindrica Bojer ex Hook.

This is Sansevieria cylindrica. I had this ornamental plant in my house in Chennai. However the leaves are not clear in the photographs. Leaves are very characteristic i.e. cylindrical and look like the vegetable drum sticks (murungu kai ). Please check the leaves for confirmation.

These are nothing but cylinders! An ornamental that looks similar to http://toptropicals.com/catalog/uid/sansevieria_cylindrica.htm,
though other similar species can be found http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sansevieria_pearsonii
