However, similar plants from VOF has been identified as Bupleurum hamiltonii N.P.Balakr. VOF Week: Apiaceae sp for ID-7 along “Govindghat-Ghangaria route”.: Looks like Bupleurum gracillimum but can’t be sure. Or some subspecies of Bupleurum falcatum. Yes Bupleurum but not B. gracillimum as bracts are longer than flowers, and bracts of rays very broad. Euphorbiaceae sp. ??
Initial identification Euphorbia sikkimensis.
Flower size is around 1 mm. or slightly more. May not be Euphorbiaceae ??
I wrote “initial identification”. The leaves are same.
superb pics. i esp love the habitat pic, shows how tiny they are, and that you really had to pay attention and look for them. vary good Please look here. You have to search elsewhere.
Attachments (1) – E. sikkimensis.jpg
What about the Euphorbia dracunculoides Lam. ??
Yes, it appears to be Euphorbia sikkimensis Boiss., found in E. Himalayas from Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh. at 2000 – 4000 m altitude.
Thank you …, Finally the correct ID.
Why is the image looks slight different in FoI?
Please do not take it otherwise but some one suggested Euphorbia prolifera Buch.-Ham. ex D. Don.
Euphorbia prolifera belongs to section ESULA
Euphorbia sikkimensis belongs to section TITHYMALUS
The differences between the two sections are:
a). Glands crescent-shaped, with horns; ray leaves usually opposite; ovary usually smooth —--Esula
b). Glands transversely oblong or rounded, without horns; ray leaves usually ternate;
ovary papillate or granulate, or rarely smooth —————————————————–Tithymalus
If you have access to fresh plants with flowers, check the above characters. You will get the answer
On further checking, I also feel these are different from images/ illustration of Euphorbia sikkimensis at
RHS Gardening
It looks like Euphorbia donii Oudejans (syn. E. longifolia D.Don, non Lam. ) which is allied to, but differs in long linear leaves and umbellate cyathia at apex of rays, supported by 4 – 5 ovate leaves. Check with the description in my book on Indian Euphorbias.
Thank you all.
I guess need a further search before finalising.
Could someone check in the book as suggested by …!
I also feel these look different from images of Euphorbia donii at other sites as below:
Thank you … for the clue. I guess it is more close to Bupleurum falcatum L.
among listed in Nepal : Bupleurum !
Seeking further opinion.
To me appears more close to images at Bupleurum gracillimum rather than those at Bupleurum falcatum Shall we wait for the final opinion from …?
Please go ahead with your own judgements.
I shall take it as Bupleurum gracillimum Klotzsch. This has been re-identified as Bupleurm tenue Buch.-Ham. ex D. Don.
Please have a look ! I agree with you, … Bupleurum hamiltonii Balak. !
