¿ Poaceae / Cyperaceae ?
¿ Grass / Sedge ?

Place, Altitude: Vaghbil, Thane … about 60 ft asl
Date, Time: 02 AUG 08 … 02:46pm
Habitat: scrub vegetation during monsoon
Habit: small erect herb; perhaps just about 1.5 – 2 ft (guess)

A sedge. I hope Cyperus iria, although not very sure.

I also agree with …

Wonderful photographs. I remember observing this on open lands. Used to play with this widely growing grass and making boundaries all around it and calling it as rice fields during my childhood.

ID request for a grass -reg : 6 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (1).
Kindly identify this grass collected from Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.
I will be grateful if some one posts a picture of Actinoscirpus grossus.

This is Cyperaceae member

May I suggest a probability – Cyperus iria L.?

Not a grass but a sedge – Cyperaceae, probably Cyperus iria

To me it looks rather like Cyperus iria than that of Actinoscirpus grossus herbarium at KEW or illustrations available at FoC.
But, I may be wrong as well, a higher resolution photograph of the spikelets might have helped.

It is Cyperus iria L.

.

Identification: 2 images.
Photos of Cyperus attached herewith. Both found in a pot as received . Kindly confirm its id.

Pl. post high res. images to check the details.

Appears to be Cyperus alulatus J. Kern (if rachis of the spikes hispid and keel of the glumes spinulose-ciliate) otherwise Cyperus iria L.

Can you confirm whether rachis of the spikes if hispid or not?
