IDENTITY : 27:
Attaching two images of a climber. I saw it in the wild at Tezpur earlier. The fruits are scarlet in color. One notices this plant for the color of the fruits. The first image is of the fruits and the second one is of leaf/fruit. Will some one identify this species for me please?

Could this be a species of Embelia ?.

It looks like Deeringia amaranthoides

Both the photos are of Deeringia amaranthoides of family Amaranthaceae. In this family climbers are very rare. There is one one rare Himalayan plant Stilbanthus scandens – also a climber of this family.

AMARANTHACEAE-CHENOPODIACEAE week DSR..011: Deeringia amaranthoides:
Deeringia amaranthoides (Lam.) Merr. (Amaranthaceae) is lone species naturally occurring in India in this genus.
It is known to occur in the entire Himalaya, NE India and South India.
It is a rambling or scandent, perennial undershrub or shrub, often with drooping long branches.
Here it is photographed near Tehri Dam in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

Excellent picture

Chenopodiaceae and Amaranthaceae Week: NS 014: Deeringia amaranthoides from Morni Hills:
This small shrub was reported from Morni Hills in Haryana, in October 2011, only a single shot with me, the plant is quite uncommon…. Deeringia amaranthoides (Lam.) Merr.

Deeringia amaranthoides:
Please validate the plant if it is Deeringia amaranthoides.

In my personel opinion, the plant may not be an Amaranthacean.
Rather, is there any chance for any memeber of Phytolaccaceae ? Preferably any species of Rivina ?

The fruiting apex looks quite likely to be Deeringia amaranthoides… leaves appear much stouter than that… please share if you have some more shots… let us wait for expert’s opinion..

The species is definitely Deeringia amaranthoides. The species was identified by …, Prof of botany of North Bengal University.

To me it is D.amaranthoides despite of variations in leaves. We have only one species in this genus in India.

It looks me Direengia amaranthoides too.

Hooghly – unknown climber, any Piper? : Attachments (8). 8 posts by 3 authors.
Found this climber, growing in village shrubberies, covering the top of bush.
Leaves are about an inch or two, both side glabrous.

Attaching flower pictures of this twiner. This seems to be no piperaceae.

Thanks … can we consider Amaranthaceae..

I have just finished checking all the amaranthaceae, described in the “Bengal Plants”. The closest match i could find is Deeringea celosioides R. Br. (D. amaranthoides (Lam.) Merr.).
The sites I have visited –
  1. illustrations
  2. images/photo
  3. also
  4. FoC
  5. FoP

You may be right this time, … wait for fruits and this is Deeringia amaranthoides or not will be confirmed…

Yes, Sir, fruit is needed to confirm the ID.

Fruit pictures recorded today suggest the plant could be Deeringia amaranthoides (Lam.) Merr. The Bengali name found GOL MOHANI / GOLA MOHANI / GHOL MUHUNEE.
Many thanks to … for the lead.
