Herb up to 45 cm tall, glabrous above; leaves opposite, oblanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 2-5 cm long, margin ciliate; flowers greenish-yellow, white to brownish, in congested cymes on lateral branches; calyx cylindrical, 7-10 mm long, base narrowed, glabrus, with prominent veins, teeth triangular; petal limb entire, spathulate, without coronal scales; capsule 7-9 mm long.

Caryophyllaceae week: Silene for id from Gori Valley: This Silene species was captured during our recent trip to Gori Valley, in October 2012… is this Silene falconeriana?

One more query… do all the pics belong to same species.. two of them are looking different… due to backside of petals..
As these pictures were taken in shortage of time.. I do not have sufficient shots.. hope to get id..

Locality: Chakrata Tiger fall road

Alt: 1500 m
Habit: Small her approx 30 cm tall
Habitat: Road side
Leaves: opposite, linear, approx 2-4 cm in size
Flowers: on opposite usually 3-flowered peduncles, white
Calyx: cylindrical, narrow, scarcely 3-4 mm broad, not inflated, 8-12 mm long, 10-nerved
Petals: white, linear, not lobed
Styles: 3, long
The species looks very different in its narrow 10 nerved calyx and linear white petals not lobed at tip.
Please help in ID

AKOCT28 ID please for this Asteraceae herb. : 4 posts by 3 authors. 3 images.

Location: Landour, few km from Mussoorie. Leaves were narrow and lance like. Stems were quite viscid.


Not Asteraceae. It is a species of Silene (Caryophyllaceae).

Interesting find. Have any pic of leaves, lower part of stem?
