ANMAR34/54 Please identify this herb : 7 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (6)

Family: Rubiaceae
Date: November 2014
Place: Nelliyampathy, Palakkad, Kerala

Habit: Herb
Habitat: Grasslands

The stipules are pectinate. They are cut up/divided. Please see the attached photo.
Using this feature and referring the Hassan flora, I can narrow down to the genera Neanotis, Oldenlandia, Knoxia, Borreria and Mitracarpus (please see attached photo again).
I cannot go further as I do not know the nature and number of ovules and locules of the ovary in the plant I have photographed.

Neanotis sp?

Neanotis species in eFIoraofindia (with details/ keys from published papers/ regional floras/ FRLHT/ FOI/ efloras/ books etc., where ever available)

I guess it is Knoxia mollis (synonym of K. sumatrensis).

Thanks sir. Knoxia sumatrensis.

Yes, it is Knoxia sumatrensis dear …, thank you very much for ID my plant,

Knoxia wightiana and Knoxia hookeriana (no details) are also reported from the district as per Flora of Peninsular India, in addition to Knoxia sumatrensis.
Looks different from the GBIF specimen of Knoxia hookeriana– one and the publication at KNOXIA HOOKERI (RUBIACEAE): A NEW SPECIES FROM INDIA.
After going through the description and other details at Knoxia wightiana, I also think that it may be Knoxia sumatrensis only.

Yes, it is Knoxia sumatrensis, dear …, thank you very much for ID my plant,

for identification: 2 very high res. image.
Taken from Mainpur forest, CG. 2020

Knoxia sumatrensis (Retz.) DC.

Knoxia roxburghii (Sprengel) M. A. Rau may also be reported (POWO) from the area with keys at Flora of China.
Difficult to check with this image.
May I request you to post other images.
Otherwise we keep it as Knoxia sumatrensis (Retz.) DC. for the time being.

Looks different from Knoxia roxburghii subsp. brunonis (Wall. ex G.Don) R.Bhattacharjee & Deb and Knoxia roxburghii var. glauca (W.W.Sm.) R.Bhattacharjee & Deb, which may be reported from your area as per POWO.
It may be Knoxia sumatrensis (Retz.) DC. only as per GBIF specimens from India.

I guess inflorescence pattern is different in roxburghii !
