Cyperus clarkei is endemic to India, Sri Lanka and Viet Nam and Myanmar. In India it is found in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

Cyperus clarkei is a perennial plant growing in seasonally flooded places and on wet sand in river beds. It is seen in the plains up to an altitude of 1,500 m.

Rhizome stoloniferous, 5-10 cm long, clothed with brown scales; culms solitary, to 25 cm tall. Leaves to 20 cm long, acuminate. Umbel 5 x 3 cm; bracts larger than umbel; spikes 15 x 7 mm, cylindrical, sessile. Spikelets 3 x 8 mm. Glumes 2; one sterile and one fertile.

Looks like Cyperus clarkei T. Cooke often found in Southern India, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
