“We know Sri. Dinesh Valke is an ardent nature lover. He has been taking photos of plants for the last 12 years. Once he finds the correct identification he uploads it to Flickr. He is on a mission to find out the local name of the species in various languages. A continuous effort spanning all these years. As we know Flickr is a private company owned by Yahoo. It can decide the fate of images stored in its servers. Due to license restrictions nobody would be saving it to other places. Now Sri. Valke ji has decided that all his life long efforts are not a thing to be decided by a company’s policy in the US. He has changed the licenses and ALL his plant photos, more than 20000, and ALL of them are now available at Wikimedia Commons which will eventually be used in Wikipedia articles in around 300 languages. Since Wikipedia is free anyone can download and store the images which means scores of Universities and Scholars will be storing them, in effect they are safe and nothing can destroy them.

28,510 to be precise but dont know if all are plants… it will take one year to see….
Thanks to Dinesh sir for his selfless efforts.
I am very sure that many people have already used his pics and names without even letting him know. No one can match his standards and no one can ever will.
My SALUTES to Dinesh sir.
Quote from a poem by Sohan Lal Dwivedi:
डुबकियां सिंधु में गोताखोर लगाता है,
जा जा कर खाली हाथ लौटकर आता है।
मिलते नहीं सहज ही मोती गहरे पानी में,
बढ़ता दुगना उत्साह इसी हैरानी में।
मुट्ठी उसकी खाली हर बार नहीं होती,
कोशिश करने वालों की कभी हार नहीं होती।
Thanks for being a nice and caring friend too.
Thanks, Pankaj ji, for the beautiful poem.
About Dinesh ji more said is less.

Thanks very much, Garg ji, Pankaj and Rawat ji for all the nice words.
It was some time back that one of mt FB contact Vinaya Raj V R, who suggested me that I make my collection copyright-free – his suggestion was convincing – that it would prove very helpful to our flora community.
Changing the license to creative commons was a time-consuming task. But now its done, and images in future would continue to be CC-SA licensed.
