SONERILA PONMUDIANA (MELASTOMATACEAE), A NEW SPECIES FROM THE WESTERN GHATS OF KERALA, INDIA– Deepthikumary K.P and Pandurangan A.G- International Journal of Current Science and Technology Vol.4, Issue, 3, pp. 166-168, March, 2016 (Abstract- Sonerila ponmudiana Deepthikum. and Pandur., a new species of Melastomataceae collected from evergreen forests of Ponmudi of Thiruvanathapuram District, Kerala, India is described. It is allied to S.tinneveliensis C.E.C Fischer but differ from the latter by having less robust habit, quandrangular stem, leaves with pink serrulate margin, short inflorescence with few glabrous flowers and campanulate capsules. The discovery assumes great importance especially in the context of many new species published in the recent past which necessitate to revisit on this genus in Western Ghat)
