Ilysanthes hyssopioides Benth. ??? : Attachments (7).  10 posts by 2 authors.

This plant, recorded on 12-May-2013. somehow got deleted from my memory till this morning!

This one was growing beside railway ditch

efi page on  Lindernia hyssopoides (Syn:  Ilysanthes hyssopioides (L.) Benth.)

The problem is manifold to me for this plant, rather the issue of “hyssopioides“.
There are-
  1. Ilysanthes hyssopioides Benth., backed by illustrations (a) plate 203 of Coromandel Plants and (b) 857 of Icones
  2. Gratiola hyssopioides of plate 128 of Coromandel Plants, along with plate 859 of Icones Plantarum
And there are descriptions as well as illustrations-
  1. CP plate 128 = FBI Dopatrium lobelioides Benth., having globose capsule = Gratiola hyssopioides of Flora Indica. i. 141., having linear-oblong capsule
  2. the plant, efi thread, referred by … in this thread, looks more like plate 128 (Coromandel Plants) to me

Relevant plates are attached herewith.

Let’s skip the ID of this plant, in this thread, for the time being. Instead, I try to figure out what is Dopatrium lobelioides Benth.

We have two posts in eFI
1) … – efi thread
There is a 3rd post. by me, irrelevant here, i have already posted info-plates in this thread.
One more time i paste the url of what efI has labelled as Ilysanthes hyssopioides (L.) Benth. – efi thread.
I pray … permission for modifying (magnifying) part of his uploaded photographs. And i attach the same herewith. I also attach relevant entries from Icones and Flora Indica (on Gratiola lobelioides).
The DATA I find from all these documents (excluding illustrations plates of Icones, Coromandel) –
  • I am skipping leaf and capsule descriptions, because there are plenty space to form misconceptions from conflicting data in those descriptions
  • peduncles axillary (Roxb.); long peduncled (Roxb.); pedicels capillary (Hooker); longish pedicelled (Wight)
  • corolla nearly 5 times the length of the calyx (against 3 or 4 times in Bonnaya hissopioides Benth,)
  • as for globose capsule, it is not clear if IMG_8549.jpg” of Prashnt Ji’s post is a capsule; if it is a capsule, i think, we can see same in the modified photo of … post
  • even blue markings on corolla are very similar in all the posts discussed here; we can ignore the color  blue or purplish.

The post at efi thread is surely Dopatrium lobelioides Benth. (assuming … and … posts are correctly identified, though have some doubt over one photograph in … post).

One more thing i would like to add that i never mentioned “Haines” in this discussion so far. Attaching entries from Dr. Haines. It is to be noted Dr. Haines used “comb. nov.“.

One person, seemingly from Bangladesh, has a plant that looks similar to my plant in this thread. He identifies it as Torenia – http://icwow.blogspot.in/2012/11/small-wishbone-flower-torenia-thouarsii.html, which i do not think is correct at all!

A number of pictures of Torenia thouarsii (Cham. & Schltdl.) Kuntze can be found in – http://www.tropicos.org/name/29201882. So, my plant can not be Torenia thouarsii (Cham. & Schltdl.) Kuntze, neither Torenia parviflora (description can be found in FoC or FBI) as have been identified in the blog from Bangladesh.

There are herbarium images of various Gratiola in the Linnean org. – http://linnean-online.org/view/type/specimen/Gratiola.html, e.g. –
I think, those two herbarium of G. lobelioides show globose capsules and plants different from what we have in eFI !!!
On the other hand herbarium of G. hyssopioides above very similar to the plant, Lindernia hyssopioides (L.) Haines of eF !!!
Now, who or what is correct? And what about … bearded stamens?
And also what about flower to leaf ratio, as in – http://indiabiodiversity.org/species/show/264031?
Sorry, … you may be quite correct.

It turns out that my plant is neither hyssopioides nor lobelioides!

Is my plant then Gratiola parviflora Roxb.?

The leaves seem to be penninerved (not clear in the photographs, at all).

So, can it be Lindernia anagallis (N. L. Burman) Pennell?

This is Torenia diffusa Roxb., a complex of Vandellia, Bonnaya, Torenia!!! Thanks to friend from Bangladesh.

Pl help me to identify the attached specimens. Found near the water resources. Found at Vettaikaranpudur near Pollachi.
Lindernia sp.

It is Lindernia anagallis (Burm.f.)Pen., of Linderniaceae

Thanks … Though I was of the same opinion, as the leaves are not serrate, I had a doubt.
