(Abstract- The nomenclatural status of the names Memecylon deccanense C.B. Clarke, M. heyneanum Benth. ex Wight & Arn., M. jambosioides Wight and M. wightianum Triana is discussed here. The name M. jambosioides, earlier considered a synonym of M. heyneanum, is here reinstated and treated as an accepted name. The binomial M. wightianum is rejected as superfluous and illegitimate, and M. deccanense is reduced to a synonym of M. heyneanum.)
