Is the problem in Google chrome still persisting, on opening of efloraofindia site, in it?

It is fine with my PC at least for last one month.

No more problem with me.

No problem, Sir

So we have finally come out of the crisis after many months.

So we should remove the warnings at home and other pages.

…, not seen the problem since quite some time.
The issue must have got resolved by browsers OR Google Sites.

yes, the warning may be removed, since it is working normally in any browser

I have removed the warning with red background from the home page.
Requesting you to change the logo (carrying the warning) that reflects in all pages.

Do you have the following as a painting for incorporation so that it is displayed on all the pages instead of Google chrome warning ?:

Database of Indian Plants – developed by the members of Efloraofindia Google Group.

I hope attached image helps …

Here is the message from Pankaj ji:
“I have not been following this thread, but I found something. Not sure if you guys have followed these steps before but try it. It worked for me.
Once done, you need to reopen your browser. I use Google Chrome.
Turn off warnings about dangerous & deceptive sites

If you don’t want to be warned about unsafe content, you can turn off deceptive and dangerous site alerts. This also turns off download warnings.

Important: We do not recommend turning off alerts.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More Moreand then Settings.
  3. Under “People,” click Sync and Google Services.
  4. Under “Other Google Services,” turn off Safe Browsing.”
I tried myself in Chrome and it is working fine for me also.
Thanks, Pankaj ji, for coming up with the solution.

It is working for me.

BUT problem is yet to be solved for users (other than mods).

what are the risks of turning off safe browsing?

turning off safe browsing on google sites i assume. I think it should be fine.

I have been working on efi site in Internet Explorer during this period and I had no issues at all with this and other related sites.
So the problem is not of the sites, but of the Chrome browser which is listing our site as Deceptive.
This problem seems to have come in Chrome only recently due to some updation in their software.
So when earlier for 9 years there was no problem, why suddenly now?

They will surely make and update!! afterall Chrome browser belongs to google!!

I have now written so many times, the question is not how we can open our website using Chrome, the website is largely meant for millions of users who want to search plants found on our website. Almost fifty percent of plants on our website are found in all major countries of the world. Imagine multiple users for whom our website would come as among first thee to four sites in the search. Who would like to go to a deceptive website (even if it is not)?. Who would Turn off warnings about dangerous & deceptive sites?. I think not even 1 per cent.
Sooner we realize this, better it would be for us

As a temporary and immediate measure the opening notification (notification) may be changed to show a message that ‘user should use Internet Explorer as web browser for better experience’. Or a message similar to this.

It may help to some serious users at least.

“Turning off safe browsing” is logically letting the browser not do any checks from its end, when we request it to go to any website.

It is like gagging the browser, and taking the onus on ourselves if we land into any harmful site.
It is like saying to browser, I will take care of security with my available resources.
Those of us who are very sensitive to system’s security, might find this as a compromise, and may not dare to accept this approach.
Those of us, who are confident with the antivirus software services we are subscribed to, may boldly take the step of turning off deceptive and dangerous site alerts from browser’s security.
All depends on our perspective.

I endorse the views of …, as I am of the same opinion.

A reply from … from another thread:

‘What you turned off is SAFE BROWSING AMONG GOOGLE SITES.

I am sure google sites doesnt have virus sites. So its ok.’

I agree with …, A temporary notification may be given to open with other browsers, it may be useful at least for some

Thanks, … I will try that tommorrow being out of station today.

I have added the following as a welcome message:
“Users should use Internet Explorer in case of any issues with other browsers”

What do google reply when you write to them?

Gurcharan sir is right that it will stop people from using the website if it stays like this. No one would like to take the risk to take off security on their computers as per my suggestion before.

Thanks, … Problem is they never reply. It is just one way communication.

May I request you to pl. modify Efloraofindia in top header to say:
Efloraofindia– Users should use Internet Explorer in case of any issues with other browsers.

I have again reported the matter to Google under Deceptive Site Ahead, as below:

‘I am the owner of this site. This is happening from last 4 weeks, in Chrome on clicking on any image (images in the site has been inserted from urls of the discussions in our Google group- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix), for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it has never happened like this.’

I also reported the matter to Google sites in Chrome again today, under Report an Issue like this:

‘I am the owner of this site. Chrome is showing this Google site as Dangerous, on opening of any page or image due to Deceptive Site Ahead warning, as can be seen on the left side of the address bar since last 4 weeks or so. This may be as the images in the site has been inserted from urls of the discussions in our Google group- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix. Due to this, persons who want to access this, are getting Deceptive Site Ahead warning on clicking on any thumbnails or links or opening any pages. Pl. look into and rectify.’

The top header is name of the site.

It will be awkward to change it to a sentence.
It is better we write it separately. I have updated the home page of eFI site; please review.
I hope I have understood you.

It may be changed a little bit,”Users should use any other browser if any issues with Google chrome, we are working on resolving the problem” the problem persists with chrome only

It works well with Yahoo, firefox and opera beside internet exploree, Microsoft edge, I have tried.

OK thanks … I have changed the wording as you have suggested.

Thanks, … But it is appearing only on home page, which hardly very few people will be visiting.
Mostly persons will be visiting pages which they encounter during search.

Oh! Now, I understand what you mean …
But I have no idea how to put a common content (in every page, upfront).
I am not aware of any facility to do that.

I think if we make a logo in painting with suitable words, it can be inserted as a header (against an existing one).

OK, got it. Let me try, …

Please check using  this image in the header instead of the current logo …

Thanks, …  It is OK. But do not include the following:

We are working on resolving the problem.
This will improve the visibility and person’s are more like to read a smaller message.

OK … Let me try and give the revised image in some while from now.

I think we need not repeat efloraofindia in logo, which seems to be inbuilt.

Yes, I was wondering if there was any way that just text could be displayed in every page’s header.
The message that gets displayed on clicking https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/join is good enough.
Here attached is the image without logo, if at all, it needs to be used.

Thanks a lot, … I have corrected it now. Pl. see https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/join, if it’s OK.
Once, this issue get resolved, we will be changing it to something like:
Database of Indian Plants – developed by the members of Efloraofindia Google Group.

Yes, thanks .., I hope the issue resolves itself soon.
The message looks good; serves our purpose.

I have put it in the center, as it was not fully visible earlier, on reducing the horizontal size of Window.

OK, looks good …

Nice working solution …….Advisory now appears on all pages on top !!!!! …, big ThanQ !!!!

I see this today
(saw it transiently a couple of days ago, the red box came and went fast, may be … was typing and trying it out?)

Thanks, …
I clicked and opened it. No issues.

I too have no issues with the opening of any pages of the eFI site.

so i am not the only one…

I tried in mobile but found no issues. Possibly antivirus in desktop creating problem. I will try again.

If you open Internet Explorer and search via Yahoo then it is okay. Otherwise, Firefox and Google Chrome both blocking the site.

I checked our site status.
It states that no unsafe content found. Here are the details as copy pasted from Google Chrome messages we are getting:
This problem is not arising in Internet Explorer, which I generally use.
So pl. use Internet Explorer till we get some solution to it.

I have also reported the matter to Google at home page with the following message:
“Google Chrome is showing site security as Dangerous on the left of the Address Bar. Pl. check and help in showing site as normal and not Dangerous”

Thank you … its systematic, wide spread problem then. what a relief, i thought because i was not here, somehow my system was damaged!!!
will delete both google, google chrome and firefox, may be its their rivalry now.

sometimes it goes to our website page
but most often it just hangs
my virus protection says its repaired X number of dangerous sites (every evening when i go to turn off computer
never happened before
please tell me is there a problem
can google do something about this?

I am not sure Usha di.
Could be some virus from some other site that is creating this issue.
Searching through Google Groups support, I found this page:
But I am not knowledgeable about this. I depend on a standard security software (Norton Security) installed in my system.

I am not sure Usha di.

But I am not knowledgeable about this. I depend on a standard security software (Norton Security) installed in my system.

I just opened the link in my mobile and there was no issue.

in ios ….apple there is no issue.

but thats murder on my eyesight and hands to keep holding a mobile for too long….
so i do this eflora on desktop… its windows and google
i do have windows defender and quick heal both, Dinesh…
Norton was too intrusive for my use, had to get rid of it several years ago…
i scan whole system everyday
and malware scan and clean up too.

…, thanks for searching  and info

i hope google will take care of the issue

I checked up and found no issue on my PC also.

so may be my copy of google or firefox is contaminated, ????

so may be delete google, firefox and internet explorer and reinstall explorer and google may solve it?

I do not think Google helps solving such issue.
It is something to do with some viral activity in your computer.
It must have sneaked in from some recently first-time visited website.
That virus needs to be tackled.
Try searching knowledge for sorting the issue of “Attackers on googlegroups.com may trick you into” by copy-pasting the string of words between quotes in Google search.
From results, check those which lead to discussions in forums. May be some solutions will come to light.
Other than this, I am not sure of any other approach.
No harm in uninstalling & re-installing Firefox (or any other browser that you use).
Else hire service of any computer maintenance expert from your area (give them brief idea what you are seeking).
All of above are merely my thoughts.

Thanks … my computer guy is not in town. i may have to do it myself.

i”ss sleep on it and then decide if i simply want to delete the browsers all three? or what

I am receiving too when trying to open images !

Same here, I cannot open images in Mozilla, I can access pages.
But in Chrome I get the red page at the site URL itself.

What about Internet Explorer, …

IE works fine, can access site, pages and can view all images.

Thanks, … It is better to use IE for the time being, which I always use.

Click on the Details (instead of Back to Safety), shown in the red by you.
And here and ignore the warning and browse on the link given.
I feel there will be no issue as I always come across many such warnings in different sites and I always browse, if I need to check some information over there.
Same Google Chrome is showing this site ‘No unsafe content found’

I have also reported the matter to Google at home page with the following message:
“Google Chrome is showing site security as Dangerous on the left of the Address Bar. Pl. check and help in showing site as normal and not Dangerous”

replied in in efl not opening thread

Now that you brought this up, …, this has happened to me too long back , but somehow it got resolved on its own. I didn’t do anything.

I think this has to do with antivirus you use. I have disabled window’s security, use Quickheal on desktop and bitdefender on mobile.
On two new machine there were avast and Mcaffee
pre installed and they were interrupting a lot not only with efi but with general net surfing too. Norton on mobile was a nuisance. I  suggest you wait for few days, else do something with antivirus .

I was thinking of calling up or writing to Quickheal.
Norton was a nuisance, i got rid of it a long ago.
may will have to disable defender, but i hesitate in these days of uncontrolled invasion

I think if we have two anti virus software working simultaneously, than there may be some problem.

i agree

windows defender always want to be the big brother, and get in the way
but my computer kid did something, so it works but lets my mcafee in some computers and quickheal in others d the primary work.
but after Macafee owner //maker was in a murder case, i want to get rid of it….

Today it happened to me.
Google says it is sending such messages to four million users daily , and primary objective seems to be making users aware of security threats ………

for example, some hacker may infiltrate the group and ask for private informations etc. It is a lot of reading on so many links.
Way out of that red alert is………..
click on the box below the mwssage written ‘details’ inside ……..
page gets extended ………
click on ‘ visit this unsafe site ‘ …….and desired page opens up.
In reality, our group is not in problem. This seems to be a safety  exercise by google and chrome being carried out vigorously on chrome for PC , and only tangentially on android and google/chrome for mobile, as per google’s own admission.

As I reported the matter to Google, efi site in Chrome does not show it Dangerous now.

Still facing this problem.

yes. comes up now. and if it goes to efloraindia, no pictures show up

security issue : 2 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (1)
please note that there is safety warning every time i am trying to open one of the pages from efloraindia. it goes like this…
try putting in google…’Artocarpus heterophyllus, efloraindia’ you are directed to all the pages for these keywords. when you click on the efloraindia page there appears a security warning (Screenshot attached).
can we resolve this issue..?

Thanks, …, Pl. see the discussions at How to add efloraofindia as a trusted site

As few of you are facing problem in accessing efloraofindia site, pl. try this.
I searched on ‘How to add a site to trusted sites in internet Explorer’.
Here are the details:
To do this, follow these steps:

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
  2. Click Trusted Sites, and then click Sites.
  3. Add https://sites.google.com under ‘Add this website to the zone’. Click on Add. Click on Close.

I already have this since long. Hope this problem will go away.
Similarly you can search for other browsers like Chrome, Firefox etc. ‘How to add a site to trusted sites in Chrome or Firefox’

thanks … but i am using google chrome and we are a google group. i dont understand their own problems. are they getting ready to scrap the groups? is so we may have to migrate the group somewhere else. what a job that that would entail??

I think the problem is created by Anti viruses and not by them.

They is no question of dumping google groups as far as I know.

Did you try ? Did your problem got over ?

Thank you … I kept reporting it as false positive but the problem persisted. Once I changed it as trusted site, the problem is solved.

I am using Safari and same problem.

Here is the link
Pl. proceed accordingly.
On net, following steps are shown:
  • Open Safari. It’s the blue icon with a compass.
  • Navigate to your website. …
  • Two-finger click the URL. …
  • Click Add Link to Bookmarks.
  • Click the box below the “Add this page to” heading. …
  • Click Top Sites. …

    Thank you …! I shall Try !

how did you do that in google chrome?

    /wp-content/uploads/2020/10/image-7-0.png

… Here’s a screenshot on how to keep it as a trusted site

  • I searched in google as ‘how to add a site to trusted sites in chrome’.
    Here are the details:

    Google Chrome
    1. Click the 3 horizontal lines icon on the far right of the Address bar.
    2. Click on Settings, scroll to the bottom and click the Show Advanced Settings link.
    3. Click on Change proxy settings.
    4. Click the Security tab > Trusted Sites icon, then click Sites.
    5. Enter the URL of your Trusted Site, then click Add.

thank you. i will try that. seems simple enough, once someone tells me what steps to follow☺. just to let you know. some thing weird is going on while i was looking at your instructions and trying the steps on my google. google tried to make changes to my hard drive. i will just stop. do malware check. full system check and go from there

    A feedback from …:
Facing the same problem with chrome, tried to add the site in trusted sites, by following the steps for chrome..but this did not work..
A you tube video guides about the google console if one has to use chrome, but probably it is to be done by the site administrator only..
It is long time since I have used explorer or any other browser..thus not willing to go away from chrome!!
But when chrome deceives, many of us have to return to other browsers, this problem needs to be resolved, because many visitors (including the first timers) who use chrome will not get access to the site..I hope the technical experts Dinesh Ji and Rawat Ji will explore more…

Anyone else has tried ? Pl. give feedbacks.

I was always having our site in Trusted sites list in Chrome also, which I found on checking.
I tried opening the pages- they are all showing up with thumbnails on signing in at the bottom.
But on clicking on images, I am also getting Deceptive site ahead message like
On clicking on details, I reported the matter to Google by clicking ‘You can report a detection problemunder Details with remarks as below:
‘This is happening from last 5 to 6 days in Chrome on clicking on any image, for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it was never like it.’
Hope Google takes action. It is basically a Chrome problem as I am not facing any such problem in Internet Explorer.
I request all the members to pl. report the matter to google by clicking ‘You can report a detection problem’ under Details with suitable remarks.
If more members report, Google will certainly take cognizance and do the needful.
As advised earlier, members should also ignore the warning and click on visit this unsafe site under details, to see the images etc. as it is a false message.

I have again reported the matter to google sites. Hope something positive comes out soon.

yes. even when I was in kew website this red screen popped up. it was thru chrome.
I wish they will solve this

May be it all depends on what kind of anti-virus and internet security you use.

I have not seen this appearing on my screen and I use Kaspersky.

Thanks, Pankaj ji, for the positive feedback.
I also use Kaspersky at home, but eScan in office.
    Do you use Chrome ?

Yes sir, I prefer to use chrome 99% of the times.

Thanks, …, for the positive feedback on Chrome.
I also use Kaspersky at home, but eScan in office.

I have added the eFI group [ https://groups.google.com/forum/#%21forum/indiantreepix ] as well as eFI site [ / ] to trusted sites.
I use Firefox browser. I tried using other installed browser Internet Explorer.
The eFI group does not have any issues in either browser.
The eFI site has some issues for me, despite having added both the sites to trusted sites (in both browsers).
The issues, in my case, arise only when I click on links pertaining to inserted images.
Let me attach an example (partial) screenshot of page at /species/a—l/a/acanthaceae/andrographis/andrographis-producta
On this page most of the inserted images are not displayed – instead their links are displayed in text.
Clicking on them, in Firefox, brings up the red screen with warning AND in Explorer, it shows a warning along with set of pictures that are to be checked based on a question asked to rule out any robot activity. On clicking correct images, the inserted image is displayed.
I have a feeling that the inserted images’ links seem to have been tampered – but I have no knowledge about this subject.
If the above link is clicked – for most people, it will show the page with warning.
BUT if one crops the above link to a certain length ..
then we reach the page that shows the image.
Of course, this is a cumbersome workaround, no one would want to attempt it every time.
The appended part of the link … &vt=ANaJVrGKf3ve4d-p_M7w6AuVn49_mOHReTBs8kTVcu9sD6e5tZKSyeweLjPsZgGT9plP_Zi14EWy6qbP-AgQ-Z82UejiQykRlDDR532B9lSF6LXN7010DDg seems to be reason for the issue.
It is different (unique) as if generated on the fly while the web page is downloaded.
But I do not know this security subject and the way to tackle it.
Perhaps some hacker’s job. But I am not at all sure.
I hope the activity will not persist forever.

Thanks, …,  I also observed the same when I tried to use Chrome yesterday. The reason is that Chrome showed it as a Dangerous site. I reported the matter to both Google and Google sites.

I request you and others also to pl. report to Google at the given link.
It is not because of the issue, you stated as because images are inserted in both ways you stated and there is never have been an issue.
I am daily working with efi site in IE and never faced a problem like this.
I think this problem will go away if all of us report the matter to Google and they take the action.

I have had the same issues recently and I reported a couple of times. I use Firefox.

yes i see … point here.

The red screen appears but it disappears so fast that I cant click on the enter the unsafe site option below.
Hopefully they will soon have an update for the sato rectify this mistake.

Thanks, …,  Anybody facing problem in I. E.?

I again checked Chrome just now.
It shows it as a Dangerous site on the left side of the address bar.
I can see the thumbnail images, but on clicking them Deceptive site ahead red screen came and I reported the matter to Google again like
‘This is happening from last 5 to 6 days in Chrome on clicking on any image, for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it was never like it.’
I also reported the matter to Google sites, under Report an Issue like this:
‘Chrome showing this google sites as Dangerous as can be seen on the left side of the address bar. Due to this members are getting Deceptive site ahead warning on clicking on images. Pl. look into it and rectify.’

Yesterday I have tried through Opera and Yahoo search, there is no problem, tried through Firefox and Yahoo search no problem only through Google Chrome or Internet explorer the problem persists; Normally I use Google chrome and Mc Afee in my system

    Thanks, …, for the feedback.
Did you click on the images to open them ?

I use chrome and there is no problem accessing the website. 🙂

Did you click on the images to open them on any efi site page ?

Oh yes, now it is showing a warning page! 🙁

    Problem with Safari also.

its a hacking problem. some one is actively doing it.

No. It is not. I am daily using it for many hours without any issues at all.

By the way, perhaps somebody may have already put their observation … there is no such experience when surfing through android phone. I see all thumbnails of images, and on-click show their larger version. Though I could spot some instances where the image was not seen nor its link – just blank space.

What about sending a mail to google ?

Thanks, …, Have you reported to Google ?

I further checked on my Laptop at home just now, on Chrome.
It shows it as a Dangerous site on the left side of the address bar on sign in and not before that.
I can see the thumbnail images after sign in (but only addresses without it), but on clicking them Deceptive site ahead red screen came and I reported the matter to Google again like

‘This is happening from last 7 to 8 days in Chrome on clicking on any image, for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it was never like it.’

I also reported the matter to Google sites, under Report an Issue like this:
‘Chrome showing this google site as Dangerous as can be seen on the left side of the address bar. Due to this, persons who want to access this site, are getting Deceptive Site Ahead warning on clicking on images. Pl. look into it and rectify.’
I do not have any problem what so ever in Internet Explorer, not even on clicking on images.
So problem basically appears to be of Chrome marking this site as Dangerous.

Perhaps it is something to do with frequent updates that happen to browsers (and other apps too).
The latest updates, whether it is Chrome, or any other, the updates may have changed some security policies, resulting in these warnings.
Hope they re-update and make them null.

Thanks, … Hope this problem get resolved as many others over a long period of last more than 12 years of efi existence.

I think there appears to be some activity in Google sites as I am unable to sign in and get Edit menu on efi google site in Internet explorer.
However, I am able to sign in and Edit in Chrome.

After adding Google sites under Trusted Sites, I have now worked in editing of efi site in Chrome, after signing in at the bottom of any efi site page.
I see all the thumbnails and found no difficulty at all except I have to ignore that red page warning (which comes once in a while) and work on this stated to be dangerous site.
So I think if you sign in, you will be able to see all the thumbnails on the page, which I think was the main worry.

    Current update:
Just now, I am not even able to see thumbnails on signing in Chrome at efi site, though getting the edit menu.
I am unable to sign in and get Edit menu on efi google site in Internet explorer.

Sorry, I am able to see thumbnails on signing in Chrome at efi site. Earlier unable to see due to message coming as unusual activity & got OK when I clicked on ‘Not a Robot’.

Position seems a bit improved today for me as below:
I am unable to sign in and get Edit menu on efi google site in Internet explorer, but seeing the thumbnails.
However, I am able to sign in and Edit in Chrome. I see all the thumbnails and found no difficulty at all except I have to ignore that red page warning (which comes once in a while).
It shows it as a Dangerous site on the left side of the address bar.
I can see the thumbnail images after sign in (but only addresses without it), but on clicking them Deceptive site ahead red screen came and I reported the matter to Google again today like

‘This is happening from last 7 to 8 days in Chrome on clicking on any image, for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it was never like it.’

I also reported the matter to Google sites again today, under Report an Issue like this:

Chrome showing this google site as Dangerous as can be seen on the left side of the address bar since last 8 to 9 days. Further I am not getting Edit menu on sign in, in Internet Explorer. Due to this, persons who want to access this site, are getting Deceptive site ahead warning on clicking on images. Pl. look into and rectify..’

…, I too finished “Report an issue”.

I mostly use Firefox on Desktop and Laptop. I rarely use Microsoft Edge and Chrome.
I have never encountered such problem. Today, opened efloraofindia in Edge and Chrome but no issue was encountered.

Antivirus installed in my system is Quick Heal Total Security.

Did you click on any image ?

No, I didn’t. I’ll check again and let you know.

I tried all the tricks. But no progress. Unable to check the links provided in efloraofindia (our site).

Click on the Details (instead of Back to Safety), shown in the red by you.
And here and ignore the warning and browse on the link given.
I feel there is no issue as I always come across many such warnings in different sites, including ours and I always browse, if I need to check some information over there.
Same Google Chrome is showing this site ‘No unsafe content found’
I am able to sign in and Edit in Chrome, at the bottom of the page. I see all the thumbnails and found no difficulty at all except I have to ignore that red page warning (which comes once in a while).

Pl. sign in at the bottom of any efi site page and you will see all the thumbnails on efi site.

Position seems a bit improved today for me as below:
I am able to sign in and get Edit menu on efi google site in Internet explorer and seeing the thumbnails.
Also, I am able to sign in and Edit in Chrome. I see all the thumbnails and found no difficulty at all except I have to ignore that red page warning (which comes once in a while).
It shows it as a Dangerous site on the left side of the address bar, in Chrome.
I can see the thumbnail images with or without signing, but on clicking them Deceptive site ahead red screen came and I reported the matter to Google again today like

‘I am the owner of this site. This is happening from last 10 days or so, in Chrome on clicking on any image, for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it was never like it.’

I also reported the matter to Google sites again today, under Report an Issue like this:
‘I am the owner of this site. Chrome is showing  this Google site as Dangerous as can be seen on the left side of the address bar since last 10 days or so. Due to this, persons who want to access this, are getting Deceptive Site Ahead warning on clicking on any thumbnails or links. Pl. look into and rectify’

… Sir. I want to report a small hack through which you can browse through eflorasite and view thumbnails without getting any sort of warning as deceptive site. If you go to settings in google chrome, you will find something called safe browsing. If you turn it off, then chrome doesn’t check the site’s security and hence you can view the site without any warnings and red screens. This is not a permanent solution as we need chrome to monitor the site’s authenticity. So i would suggest turning safe browsing off while accessing the eflora site and later turn it on. Long term solution would be to purchase a ssl certificate of some kind or request a review from google which might solve our problem.

Thanks, …, for your valuable views.
But why you write Ralatson’s hacks– it sometimes give scary feeling.
I have been writing to Google as well as Google sites, everyday.
Hope they look into the matter and sort it out.
I think it may have come up due to some updates in Chrome etc. (as pointed out by … earlier), which should be rectified by them in due course.

… Sir, that is actually the name of my blog. I registered with this mail address in wordpress. So instead of my name, it somehow says Ralatson’s hacks.

And yes, it might due to the updates to take out phishing sites as Dinesh Sir pointed out.

I did as advised by Mr. Ralastan. It works for home page, Not working for family/Genus/Species subpages. My only way out is clicking on details on red page, and clicking on ”visit unsafe page”.

Thanks, … Yes, that is the way until the problem is resolved.

While we should be happy that in most of the Google searches (which has species featured on eflorafindia) our website gets listed in top two or three websites, on clicking it is shown as dangerous website. Earlier the danger screen would vanish after a few seconds, now in 95 percent of cases it persists and you have to exit the website. This is a very serious issue which needs to addressed for permanent solution. Whereas we may educate a few people on the moderator group or even plus 3000 members of efloraofindia, what about general public for whom this website is ultimately meant. Anyone who sees warning sign a couple of times would never go back to our website and may even warn his/her friends about it.
Unless urgent solution is found, we may land into category of websites which users may desist from visiting.

Thanks, …, We have been discussing this for sometime now.
My feeling is that due to constant updation in the browsers.
I have been reporting the matter to Google as well as Gogle sites on daily basis.
Hope they may look into it or it may be generalised problem, which they may be trying to address.

And what I find problem is with the individual pages, not the website in general Today I opened homepage (it went well), clicked alphabetic list, was able to see genera of Rosaceae. Acaena page was fine but A. echinata deceptive; Agrimonia page deceptive, Alchemilla page was fine but species pages deceptive, Aruncus alright but species pages deceptive, Chaenomeles, Comarum both fine but species pages deceptive. Cotoneaster page itself deceptive and so on.

I am using Chrome, and my concern is we can’t ask millions of users around the World to use a particular browser and how to add it to safe websites, especially when so many websites are becoming notorious.

Thanks, … It is OK as long as you do not open more pages or click on images for opening.
Once you do that, site is marked as dangerous.

Being a Google site, I think Google will sort out the security issue if any, as nothing is in our hands.

…, I have been regularly doing Google search for plant names, may be more than 500 times a day, while updating my database, and in last few days our website features prominently, but when we click the page from Google search it is among 2-3 percent of websites which are listed dangerous. I am looking from the point of view of general user. Once he/she finds it a dangerous website couple of times, may not come back at all. This way ours years of hard labour may be just wasted.

    Thanks, …,
We have handled many storms in the past. I am hopeful this will also pass away and we will come out stronger. I think it is just a matter of time.
We had problems in posting as attachments, we got out of it.
We were not having search properly in our google site for quite sometime.
We had lot of issues in uploading of images and our site was not accessible number of times.
Ultimately all these were Google problems and many times due to handling of the problems by Google Bots (programmes).
But finally all these were resolved by Google, though sometimes they took quite long.
Being a google site, I am hopeful they (Google) will resolve this issue also.

I have again reported the matter to Google under Deceptive Site Ahead, as below:
‘I am the owner of this site. This is happening from last 12 days or so, in Chrome on clicking on any image, for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it was never like it.’
I also reported the matter to Google sites again today, under Report an Issue like this:

‘I am the owner of this site. Chrome is showing  this Google site as Dangerous as can be seen on the left side of the address bar since last 12 days or so. Due to this, persons who want to access this, are getting Deceptive Site Ahead warning on clicking on any thumbnails or links. Pl. look into and rectify’
I request the members also to report the matter to Google on similar lines.

Thanks …, we will do what we can at our end.

Thanks …, the more prominent you are the more vulnerable you are. As pointed out earlier our website appeared never so prominently as now in Google searches, thanks largely to your efforts especially over last few months when I see more than 50 notifications of updation every day. I greatly admire your dedication, that makes me more concerned about popularity of our website.

Thanks, …, for the nice words. You laid the foundation and we all are just working on that.

As far as current issue is concerned, we are helpless as of now and do not find any other way except reporting the matter to Google.
We have always traveled in uncharted territory.

…, I understand the images inserted into eFI Site are from the eFI Group.
The content of Group are posts or messages, which are certainly secured by Google.
I am naive about this matter – but when we seek images from secured content of Group into Site, there is a possibility that a warning gets triggered. Such warning could be because of evolution of better security in Google’s software. But this is just my thought. I may not be correct.
To check out alternative treatment of inserting images, few images from Group must be uploaded to Google Photos of your account, clearly setting the image access to public. Try inserting those images into site’s page, and share URL of that page in itpmods. We will check whether we succeed in getting rid of this issue.

Thanks, …  But that is how our site has been built.

I will start reporting the matter in this way from tomorrow onwards, to Google and Google sites.
Hope they will understand the understand the underlying problem and take necessary steps to rectify the situation.

There has been similar issues when inserting images with search in efi site getting disoriented (which gave us trouble for about a year or so) and site sometimes not being accessible, which they used to rectify on reporting the matter to Google and to Google sites.

You can look at moderators images, which have been uploaded directly from PC.
I will also have a look tomorrow.

Since our group is open to public access, whether being a member or just some viewer, there does not arise any security issue of seeking images from the posts. Now that the problem is persisting, it has made me think in different fashion. I think only Google engineer will be help us out with appropriate solution.
Let us hope for a sure resolve from their end.

this needs a practical solution and a little bit of concern and care.
I like solution that takes Ocham’s razor in consideration.

I have again reported the matter to Google under Deceptive Site Ahead, as below:
I am the owner of this site. This is happening from last 14 days or so, in Chrome on clicking on any image (images in the site has been inserted from urls of the discussions in our Google group- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix), for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it has never happened like this.
I also reported the matter to Google sites again today, under Report an Issue like this:

I am the owner of this site. Chrome is showing this Google site as Dangerous, on opening of any page or image due to Deceptive Site Ahead warning, as can be seen on the left side of the address bar since last 14 days or so. This may be as the images in the site has been inserted from urls of the discussions in our Google group- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix. Due to this, persons who want to access this, are getting Deceptive Site Ahead warning on clicking on any thumbnails or links. Pl. look into and rectify.

I request the members also to report the matter to Google on similar lines.

I have sent feedback again today (have included screenshot too).

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hello team at Google Sites,
    Bringing to your notice, recent “no display” of inserted images in Google Sites. The images inserted in the site are sought from Google Group (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix). This issue is persisting since about a fortnight.
    Clicking on the exposed links of inserted images show page with warning: Deceptive Site Ahead.
    I hope you resolve the issue at earliest.
    ~~~~~~~
For those who intending to send feedback, please look out for settings icon (looks like gearwheel) at right top of any page in eFI site.
I have attached two small screenshots to identify the settings icon, and its dropdown menu. The last item of menu is “Report an Issue”.
Click on it, and put your feedback, do please include screenshot of small area the page which shows the exposed links of inserted images.

I recently watched some youtube videos claiming to have a fix on this “Deceptive site ahead” warning issue. Many users have mentioned it worked for them. Please give it a try and see if it works for our site.

    Thanks, …
I tried. Our site is already there in the Google console.
Problem seems to be from files uploaded from google groups in efi site as images.
I tried but do not know, how to upload Google verification html file in our Google site or Google group, for further verification.

What I find more strange is that I am not able to sign in efi site in Internet explorer in my laptop at home, while it is working fine in Internet explore in my Desktop in Office.

    … same experience, I can open through yahoo but unable to sign to write a comment on id of plants;

it is since the windows update some 15 days back the problem started.

how will we ever find out who uploaded something or somethings that’s triggering the response. thousands of cases. but since this is a recent phenomenon, may be we can quarantine last one year cases or something like that and go thru page by page or case by case?

Problem appears to image addresses of images in efi site, being inserted from Google groups as pointed out by … That is why problem gets triggered on clicking on any image.
We have written to Google to rectify. As this has been recent phenomenon, Google will take care in due course, both being its babies.

…, please read this page, https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/99020 particularly the last paragraph

    ***
My site or software is marked dangerous

Thanks, … I think we can not do that as it is Google sites and we do not have facilities as required at

This is for hacked sites, while our issue is different (insertion of images from google group urls, which is fagging off warnings).

Funny thing is, there is no problem at all when I access this site on mobile. Also, warning comes only on species pages and on images.

Today, I am able to open images also in IE without any Deceptive site ahead warning. Pl. check.

Me too. Stopped getting warning since a couple of days !

    which engine
    e or g

    Through Safari !

Today that notorious red screen flashed in a simple google search ……….

I have not been following this thread, but I found something.

    4. Under “Other Google Services,” turn off Safe Browsing.

Thanks, …, I tried it myself in Chrome. Yes, it is working fine. So members who are having any issue with Chrome can follow it.

I have again reported the matter to Google under Deceptive Site Ahead, as below:

‘I am the owner of this site. This is happening from last 3 weeks, in Chrome on clicking on any image (images in the site has been inserted from urls of the discussions in our Google group- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix), for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it has never happened like this.’

I also reported the matter to Google sites in Chrome again today, under Report an Issue like this:

After using my technique, it doesnt show dangerous site on my screen atleast.

Okay, I turned off  ‘safe browsing’ and the nuisance is gone for now ………..two issues remain………one , what ever protection ‘safe browsing’ was providing, is gone. Two, how to tell every user across the globe to turn off  ‘safe browsing’.

Thanks, …, That we are regularly reporting the matter to both Google and on Google site. Hope they soon resolve the issue.

What you turned off is SAFE BROWSING AMONG GOOGLE SITES.

I am sure google sites doesn’t have virus sites. So its ok.

The idea of my post was not how we few of us on Itpmods or even rest of the members can access our website, but how general users for whom the website is meant will access the site, and finding it deceptive, not move away from it. We few can take measures to open the website, how general users can do it. They won’t take risk, even if they find out the method.

    Yes, I agree.

But at least it is a step in the forward direction.

    …, your concern is valid.
Much of the non-member-visitors will land on pages of eFI; when they click on exposed links of inserted images, they will face the warning page just like most of us do. After that, it is left to their decision. This will go on until the issue is resolved by Google – by doing some changes in settings of Groups’ image locations (URLs). This is just my understanding, not sure how correct it is.

I think If we turn off safe browsing , it will afect all browsing activity, not only google sites……that is where our antivirus will come into play, and window’s defender too if we choose to use it.

For now I have turned off safe browsing, but I shall be activating it time to time to see if problem is resolved from google’s end.

I just worked for about an hour or so in efi site in Google Chrome in my Laptop at home with Safe Browsing (protects you and your device from dangerous sites) on.
I did not find any issue either with the site or on opening of the images.
Pl. check and give your feedback.

Suddenly it came up again just now.
There was no issue at all for two hours of intensive working.

I have again reported the matter to Google under Deceptive Site Ahead, as below:

‘I am the owner of this site. This is happening from around last 4 weeks, in Chrome on clicking on any image (images in the site has been inserted from urls of the discussions in our Google group- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix), for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it has never happened like this.’

No …, there is a warning malware embedded in this site

    Thanks, …
It worked fine for me for two hours. But again the same problem.

I agree with … At times I get a red screen with a warning message that the site is dangerous. I don’t remember to have seen this  on my mobile but shows on my desktop every now and then. Wondering why this is happening.

    Thanks, …,
Pl. read details and possible solutions at ‘Deceptive site ahead’ problem

I am telling you. I don’t think its just a google chrome problem. some or one of the pictures submitted to us is the culprit. someone did it maliciously or was himself/herself hacked and sent in infected pictures. finding it would be a full time job on a dedicated computer with several run throughs with malware detection program or programs.

since you have saved each and every email, task may fall on you. sorry. but its not an innocent affair

I have been saying it for last few weeks, we have been hacked or some one  who is hacked is our very active member

I do not agree with your views. If something is hacked, it will not work in any browser or mobile.

I fervently hope you are right. I do. but my exp over the last 40+ years with computers and their users has made me very vary….

    … your concern is understandable.

We can stay assured that there is no hacking involved in our case.
One way to look at it is – we are on Google Sites servers (not one – could be on many mirrors – to reduce any chance of failure).
Google does not accept any phishing / hacking codes on their sites – they are automatically rejected – the “Sites” software is built in that fashion.
Otherwise, there is no dirth of Google sites for hackers to play with.
And it would have been known all over related forums.
Google protects their products from any viral attacks, otherwise it will be a calamity.
For example, in Gmail, the attachments are always scanned by their servers for any viral activity (right at the stage during attaching process).
In case of eFI site (and all Google Sites), some settings have recently changed – either at Groups OR at Sites OR at both.
The change(s) are affecting the “inserted” images – the images inserted from “Groups” into “Sites”.
Inserted images in Sites are no longer displayed, and their URLs are exposed as textual links.
These links worked smoothly earlier; they would display the image when clicked on their thumbnails.
But now they trigger a warning. This warning is not shown by Google, but by browser’s security mechanism OR by the security software that we have installed in our system.
Thus the crux is – the link generated for inserted image is recognized by security software as a link to defective or malicious site.
The link generation may have undergone some change in recent times – and it falls under “threat” category of security mechanisms.
All of above are my thoughts, may not be correctly expressed.
It could be different expressed by people knowing this subject.
All that Google could do is revise their method of link generation for the inserted images – so that the browser security mechanism OR installed security software do not consider the link as threat.

    Thanks, …, for detailed understanding.

Dear Sir these days there is a  problem with eflora, it gets reddened and a warning of dubious website appears please look in to the matter.

Thanks, …, Pl. see ‘Deceptive site ahead’ problem and solution

Now a days, sometimes pages open without problem, sometimes they not, with safe browsing on.

its been going on for a few months

Are there still issues with Google Chrome, while opening efi site ?

    Yes, still !

Erratic …  sometimes pages open without problem. sometimes pages flash red and then open, sometimes pages open and after few seconds they turn red.

It disturbs google image search. I tried firefox for efi, but it will never show images, only their links.
So, either I surf efi on mobile (no problem) or, on laptop I suffer a bit.
Turning off safe browsing works, but produces anxiety …I have kept it on.

I have again reported the matter to Google under Deceptive Site Ahead, as below:
I am the owner of this site. Earlier for last 9 years it has never happened like this.
I also reported the matter to Google sites again today, under Report an Issue like this:
I am the owner of this site. Chrome is showing, on opening of any image by clicking, Deceptive Site Ahead warning,  since last few months or so. This may be as the images in the site has been inserted from urls of the discussions in our Google group- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix. Due to this, persons who want to access this, are getting Deceptive Site Ahead warning on clicking on any thumbnails or links. Pl. look into and rectify.

yes. i used bing for ac couple of months. then went to google chrome, too many problems, not just our site or group. may be there is some internal mischief in their own organization. any way back to fire fox which uses Google (only google). it gets me the red box when clicking on links for pictures in our species pages.
WHY DO Some pictures show up, while others only as links in our website pages?

WHY DO Some pictures show up, while others only as links in our website pages? -> Depends on the network speed. Lighter images get loaded, while heavier ones may not load and show as thumbnails, but only links.

… , this was happening with firefox with me.

In chrome it either opens, or goes red. when I opt for unsafe page it opens completely ….same net speed. That was reason for me to drop firefox.

look at this page as an example
except for one case which shows up on its on with its pictures, spontaneously . others are just links. i want to know why? why are the pictures not inserted? is there a technological difference? all are just links. which cant be opened without getting the red box//or whole page

I am able to see all the images in Internet Explorer.
I think browser (Chrome is stated to be giving problem for a past few months) or surfing speed may be an issue.

Do you face these issues all the time or once in a while (with the same browser)?

Bing has its own problem. took too long to open each bread etc etc and enlarging submitted pictures took several seconds.
right now i am a care taker for several, don’t have the luxury for few seconds for each picture (one aunt just left us, doing antim sanskar tomorrow from her son’s home).
bing also had :too much pop up and some leave very large trail, use up memory and some ads gave me the creeps.
went to download chrome, could not do it. too large, would get me zip file, which i could not open, and dont want to download the winz…. so on to firefox …  its default is google search engine.
simply google. theats where the red boxes are.
