efi page on this species:  Mukia maderaspatana

I think this looks like the illustrations at http://www.plantillustrations.org/species.php?id_species=682944 and not the one in http://florabase.dpaw.wa.gov.au/browse/profile/33031 (some info).

1. Cucumis maderaspatanus L. and Mukia maderaspatana (L. ) Roem are synonym.
2. The second link  http://florabase.dpaw.wa.gov.au/browse/profile/33031 (some info).given by … I think does not depict the plant acurately. To me it looks like Solena amplexicaulis (syn: Melothria heterophylla).
… plant looks like C. maderaspatanus L.  alright

I found the second link in another thread, asking the current accepted name of Cucumis maderaspatanus L. – efi thread.

Is this Cucumis maderaspatana ? The plant is growing in JNU campus, Delhi.

The flowers are extremely minute, about 5 mm in diameter, and appear to be sessile and cluster at the axils of sessile leaves. As the fruits mature, however, distinct leaf petiole and fruit pedicels are seen and the leaves have become broader. The floraofindia photograph shows flowers at axil of broad petiolate leaves.

Yes this is Mukia maderaspatana Syn. Cucumis maderaspatanus a common twiner in our area..

Thank you very much, … But there are slight differences between the photograph of plant uploaded on efloraofindia site and these.

Me too with … ID. The pea-sized fruit tells the ID. …, any differences could be variations.

Cucumis maderaspatanus  L.

nice. what is it in indian names?

Here are the names that I have compiled long back. Will need to check for more in other languages of India, and add many in their native scripts.
commonly known as: bristly bryony, Madras pea pumpkin, rough bryony • Bengali: bilari • Gujarati: tindori • Hindi: बिलाड़ी bilari, मुसमुसा musmusa, परिपुष्करा paripushkara, पिण्डिला pindila, सेटु setu • Kannada: chitrati • Konkani: चिरटी chirati • Malayalam: chitrati • Marathi: चिरटी or चिराटी chirati, पांगोरी pangori • Nepali: मट्याङग्र काँक्री matyangre kankri • Punjabi: gwala kakri • Rajasthani: ankh phutani • Sanskrit: परिपुष्करा paripushkara, पिण्डिला pindila, सेटु setu  • Tamil: முசுமுசுக்கை muchumuchukkai, பரிபுஷ்கரை paripuskarai • Telugu: నూగుదోస nugudosa • Urdu: مسمسا musmusa

In Gujarat , they call it Chibri चिबड़ी, unripe it tastes like persian cucumber (चिबड़ा).

Thank you very much … for the interesting name. I will soon take up compiling names of this plant.

A small, wild, climbing plant, seen at Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
Flowering in December.
Please identify

Interesting member of Cucurbitaceae !!

Mukia maderaspatana it looks like

Same thought from me; the flower is exceedingly small, therefore was not confident.

Thanks …!
Never knew about this character of Cucumis maderaspatanus. The leaves in my plant are almost stalkless, and the inflorescence is so hairy. I only knew this plant through … pics: 🙂
so, was not able to recognize.

But now some doubts have cropped up. Could Dinesh’s plant here
be Zehneria maysorensis?
The leaves look smooth compared to the rough leaves of my plant.
Any thoughts?

No Tabish, my plant at this page in flickr is of Mukia maderaspatana.
Zehneria has different flower structure.

Good work on Zehneria …says fruit ellipsoid in Z. maysorensis

Thanks … for the clarification! Thanks … for the paper on Zehneria.
