Attached are two different flowers that I need help with the ID’s.
First, is this Pedicularis porrecta? The photo was taken in September on Phulchowki at elevation 2250. The flower color is not right for P. porrecta.
I need help with a flower at 2000m Phulchowki attached.

To me appears more closer to Pedicularis gracilis as per details and images herein and as per comparative images at Pedicularis

Pedicularis gracilis subsp. gracilis var. gracilis

/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Pedicularis%20gracilis.jpeg

I think the photo attached is Pedicularis gracillis. The previous photo the flowers are on long stalks and paired.

Pedicularis porrecta is a high altitude plant found above 3600m.
The second one is Pedicularis gracilis Wall. ex Benth. !

Were these taken from the same place ? Same date?

Not at the same elevation, the paired flowers was at 2200m, the P gracilis was at 2760m. Both flowers are growing on Phulchowki.

Same date

Do you have other images showing full plant etc.? If so, pl. post.
Another closer to species as per keys in Scrophulariaceae of the Western Himalayas By Francis . Pennell (1942), is Pedicularis brunoniana Wall. ex Pennell (Pedicularis pennelliana Tsoong as per Checklist of Nepal), both of which is a syn. of Pedicularis gracilis subsp. macrocarpa (Prain) Tsoong as per Catalogue of Life.
Pl. see specimens in GBIF from Nepal, listed below:

May be close.

I have only three photos. One is of the stem and leaves the other is the paired flowers.

Good. This appears to be much branched as for Pedicularis brunoniana Wall. ex Pennell (Pedicularis pennelliana Tsoong as per Checklist of Nepal), as in keys at Scrophulariaceae of the Western Himalayas By Francis . Pennell (1942).
What do you think after looking at herbarium specimens ?

Yes, I would agree with you after looking at the specimens. Thank you for taking those extra steps to identify this one.

Sir, one more question, was Pediuclaris changed from Scrophulariaceae to Orobanchaceae?

Yes

Pedicularis gracilis subsp. stricta Tsoong ??

Do you have any keys for these subspecies ?
… may further check and confirm.
To me these look different.

Thank you for your research. I will compare the leaves and flower shapes with these specimens and get back to you.

May I request you to pl. post high resolution image of this one to check details with Pedicularis gracilis Wall. Ex Benth. (Scrophulariaceae) Complex in the Himalayas – A Taxonomic Reinvestigation– Tariq Husain Arti Garg- March 2003 Taiwania 48(1)

I guess more close to Pedicularis gracilis subsp. stricta Tsoong!

I think the photo attached is Pedicularis gracillis. The previous photo the flowers are on long stalks and paired.

I am sending a photo. I hope it is the right one. After looking at the paper on Research Gate it looks similar to P. gracilis var. gracilis – I think.
Let me know if you had a different photo in mind.
2 images- 5 & 6 mb each.

Yes, … This appears to be Pedicularis gracilis subsp. gracilis var. gracilis as per
Pedicularis gracilis Wall. Ex Benth. (Scrophulariaceae) Complex in the Himalayas – A Taxonomic Reinvestigation– Tariq Husain Arti Garg- March 2003 Taiwania 48(1)

I am sending the first image as a high resolution that you said was P. gracilis –  I had asked if it was P. porrecta. Is this the one that … said was P. graciis var stricta? I just want to be clear on the ID.

Yes! I have suggested it could be !

I have asked for it to examine as per Pedicularis gracilis Wall. Ex Benth. (Scrophulariaceae) Complex in the Himalayas – A Taxonomic Reinvestigation– Tariq Husain Arti Garg- March 2003 Taiwania 48(1)

This is Pedicularis gracilis subsp. macrocarpa (Prain) Tsoong (syn: Pedicularis gracilis subsp. brunoniana (Wall. ex Pennell) T. Husain & Arti Garg) only as per Catalogue of Life & as per details at Pedicularis gracilis Wall. Ex Benth. (Scrophulariaceae) Complex in the Himalayas – A Taxonomic Reinvestigation– Tariq Husain Arti Garg- March 2003 Taiwania 48(1).

Looking at the Herbarium images received from the Naitonal Herbarium, Nepal,
I feel it is more close to P. gracillis var stricta !

Pedicularis gracilis Wall. ex Benth. : 5 very high resolution images.
Location: Kathmandu Valley
Date:  October 2020
Elevation: 2400m.
Habitat  : Wild

To me appears close to images at Pedicularis gracilis subsp. macrocarpa rather than those at Pedicularis gracilis

‘Flora of Kathmandu Valley’ and ‘Flora of Phulchoki and Godawari’ so far listed P. gracilis only and the elevation for P. gracilis subsp. macrocarpa does not match the elevation.
Excerpts from Flora of Bhutan also enclosed !
1 attachment.

We have discussed detailed keys in another thread by Karen as per Arti ji publication. I will go by that.

By the way, Flora of Bhutan does not list Pedicularis gracilis subsp. gracilis as per details in the attachment, submitted by you.
