Annual herbs, about 20-40 cm tall. Stems erect, slender, thickened at nodes, sparsely branched, glabrous. Leaves alternate, ovate-lanceolate, about 1.5-4 x 0.7-2 cm across, base cuneate to attenuate, margins crenate with few filiform appendages, apex acute to acuminate, lateral veins about 4-6 on either side of the midrib, green above and paler whitish beneath, petiole slender, about 1-3 cm long. Inflorescence resupinate, axillary or subterminal, 1-2 flowered, peduncles short. Flowers bisexual, zygomorphic, about 3-3.5 cm across, pedicel slender, about 0.5-1 cm long, sepals 3, imbricate, 2 lateral ones flat, small, ovate, apex acuminate, glabrous, about 10 x 5 mm across, posterior sepal (Lip) large, petaloid, navicular, about 10-12 mm long, spurred, spur abruptly constricted, somewhat annular, about 2-2.8 cm long, upper standard petal, suborbicular-obcordate, apex acuminate, green, about 15 mm long, lateral ones (wings or alae), fused in pairs, rose tinged, basal lobes ovate-triangular, distal lobes ligulate, dorsal auricle short. Stamens 5, anthers bi-locular. Ovary 5 locular, superior. Fruit indehiscent, capsule, narrow fusiform or linear, about 1.7-5.4 cm long, glabrous. Seeds many.

Impatiens species : 2 posts by 2 authors. 1 correct image as above.
This impatiens have been shot from Sikkim by my friends … Kindly confirm the species and obliged.


These are two species – notice difference in colour and shape of lateral petals.

Unfortunately, however, these pictures don’t give enough details for identification.
From Sikkim only, about 50 Impatiens species are known…


Image 1 looks closeness to Impatiens yui S.H.Huang and image 2 is Impatiens puberula DC.. We should ask to Dr. Gogoi regarding this. Researchgate.


the white flowered plant with pink vein is Impatiens uncipetala C.B. Clarke ex Hook. f.
The pink flowered plant is Impatiens decipiens Hook.f.


Is there any connection between Impatiens uncipetala and Impatiens yui  ?
