Please help to identify this climber flowering & fruiting in Silonda Trail at SGNP (Borivali National Park), Mumbai in wild. Leaves were not seen and the pictures has been taken today (9.4.13).

Looks like some Vitaceae sp. (Cissus sp..) ?

By now there may be a few leaves which would help in identification. It is most likely a Cissus sp.

Today (24.4.13) I took the pictures (3) of the climber with leaves, flowers & fruit……not many leaves are seen still……but its st flowering & fruiting profusely.
I hope these pictures will help to identify this plant……..the plant is in Silonda Trail of SGNP, Mumbai.

… my guess: the wavy-leaved cissus, Cissus repanda.

Affirmative. This is Ghendal [Cissus repanda]. Please check these links

Just saw the pics. Yes, I agree!

Bhimbetka Rock Shelters in Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary … about 1850 feet ft asl
Date / Time: 20 SEP 13 at 03:26 PM … Altitude: about 1902 ft asl
ID please … (family: ?)
Dear friends, I have no clue about this large climber with cordate leaf. Also not sure of the tree with compound leaf. The cordate leaf could be about 12 – 15 cm across.
Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, a world heritage site, is famous for its rock paintings. The place is known to be one of the most primitive dwellings of human race. All of the rock shelters are located within the territory of Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary.

This looks like Ghendal [Cissus repanda]. Please check this link

Indeed … Thank you very very much for the ID.

Need help for Identification
Habitat: Dry Scrub Forest
Place: Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh
Date: 25 August 2019.

Yes Cissus woodrowii. thank you …

Taking this as Cissus arnottiana B.V.Shetty & Par.Singh (as it has tendrils, which are not there in Cissus woodrowii (Stapf ex Cooke) Santapau) and as per discussions at Plant ID. and high resolution specimens at GBIFone, two, three, four and five

You’re right …, woodrowii hasn’t tendrils but arnottiana has simple tendrils, not forked…. I hope this plant is repanda only,

Thanks, … I agree with you.

Would this be Cissus woodrowii ?
Place: Peddamandyam mandal, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh.
Date: 27 JUL 16

Wonderful images, … Pl. check with images at Cissus woodrowii

I think matches with images at Cissus woodrowii

Taking this as Cissus arnottiana B.V.Shetty & Par.Singh as per discussions at Plant ID. and high resolution specimens at GBIFone, two, three, four and five

I guess … is right !

Rather it may be Cissus repanda Vahl due to forked tendrils, which are simple in Cissus arnottiana B.V.Shetty & Par.Singh

Yes, it’s repanda …, very happy to see this post from my native,

the stem of the plant looks more similar to C. woodrowii. (https://indiabiodiversity.org/observation/show/1732140?pos=)

Sorry, …, There is wrongly identified woodrowii instead repanda (What you sent reference),

Cissus or other genera of Vitaceae?

This appears to be Cissus repanda (Wight & Arn.) Vahl [Vitaceae].

What would you say about this ?
Can it be Cissus woodrowii (Stapf ex Cooke) Santapau as I do not see any tendrils ?

I guess matching !

It could be repanda because the plant seems Straggling shrub, tendrils some times deciduous…
and one more thing woodrowii not reported earlier from Chittoor,

Ok. …

Climber for Identification. : 7 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (1)
Requesting you to please identify this woody climber in the dry deciduous forest of central India.
I am observing this climber since 3 years but unable to see the flowers and fruits, I don’t know what is the reason but I haven’t seen them. The population is also stable and quite common.
It is a left handed twining climber. Rest can be observed in the photograph.
I am having doubt on being a Vitaceae member.
Please help.

A beautiful climber / vine from Assam : 11 posts by 7 authors. Attachments (8)

A beautiful Climber / Vine hanging from top of a tall tree and protruding into the river stream.
Jaipur forest, Assam, 18th July 10
The heart shaped leaves appeared to grow from the vine, young one’s – pale green or red color, turns green later.

.. Any Menispermacean…?  wild guess…

Yes, could be Anamirta cocculus or its allied.

Looks like Anamirta cocculus but I am not sure

Looks like Byttneria grandifolia DC. to me but cant confirm in absence of flowers/fruits.

So many guesses, but you all missed one orchid and multiple ferns there. There is a Cymbidium with strap shaped leaves in the back, can
id the species and at the same time there is a fern which … should check. May be Polypodium or some species of Lepisorus…just a
guess though…

There are most probably Aspleniums too on the last pic.
…, kindly validate….

Seems to Cissus sp.

Closest I can go is Cissus repanda Vahl as per comparative images at Cissus

Plant from Parvuthamalai hills : 4 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (1)- 2 Mb.
Found in Parvuthamalai hills of Eastern ghats.

It seems to be Cissus pallida

May be C. paliida (syn. of Cissus adnata Roxb.) as suggested by …, as per Flora of China  FOC illustration  Annotated checklist of Flowering plants of Nepal  India Biodiversity Portal  Wikipedia  GBIF  Flowers of India  useful tropical plants  factsheet  POWO
But I am not sure.

Very close to repanda (= pallida) than adnata, There is a confusion here. Catalogue of Life gives Cissus pallida Steud. as a syn. of Cissus adnata Roxb., while POWO says syn. of Cissus repanda (Wight & Arn.) Vahl. However, The Plant List based in WCSP (under review) also states it to be syn. of Cissus adnata Roxb.

Very close to repanda(= pallida) than adnata,

There is a confusion here. Catalogue of Life gives Cissus pallida Steud. as a syn. of Cissus adnata Roxb., while POWO says syn. of Cissus repanda (Wight & Arn.) Vahl
However, The Plant List based in WCSP (under review) also states it to be syn. of Cissus adnata Roxb.

Kannada names of Cissus repanda (Wight & Arn.) Vahl:

Please help validate the Kannada names of Cissus repanda, that I have attempted in native script.
Please take your time.
mandaka balli – ಮಂದಕ ಬಳ್ಳಿ
yelaekambulla balli – ಯೆಲೇಕಂಬುಳ್ಳ ಬಳ್ಳಿ
Reference: Karnataka Biodiversity Board, 2019. FLORA OF KARNATAKA, A Checklist, Volume – 2: Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. 1 – 1002 (Published by Karnataka Biodiversity Board)
elekombu balli – ಎಲೆಕೊಂಬು ಬಳ್ಳಿ
kallu narande – ಕಲ್ಲು ನರಂದೆ
mudi balli – ಮುಡಿ ಬಳ್ಳಿ

Following should be okay …
mandaka balli – ಮಂದಕ ಬಳ್ಳಿ
yelaekambulla balli – ಎಲೆಕಂಬುಳ್ಳ ಬಳ್ಳಿ
elekombu balli – ಎಲೆಕೊಂಬು ಬಳ್ಳಿ
kallu narande – ಕಲ್ಲು ನರಂಡೆ
mudi balli – ಮುಡಿ ಬಳ್ಳಿ
I used another reference (Latin and Kannada names of indigenous and medicinal plants of Mysore by S G Narsimhachar), and cross-referred other species of Cissus.

I went through in detail. In my view Kannada name “yelaekambulla balli – ಎಲೆಕಂಬುಳ್ಳ ಬಳ್ಳಿ” is not convincing though some references  provide this name. Other names are O.K. It is a modified (not so accurate) version of  ಎಲೆಕೊಂಬು ಬಳ್ಳಿ which is correct. Here kombu refers to horns. In my view  you may avoid this. Nevertheless, it is upto you to keep this name or not.

Thank you very very much, …
I will remove that ambiguous name yelaekambulla balli – ಎಲೆಕಂಬುಳ್ಳ ಬಳ್ಳಿ” to avoid any confusion.
Will update shortly.
