Promising remedy for Pathri (Renal Calculi).

I hope Kalanchoe blossfeldiana

Agree wid … This z Kalanchoe blossfeldiana / Kalanchoe (Fam.- Crassulaceae ).

Kalanchoe pinnata is pathurkuchi… an anti renal stone remedy in herbal medicine…
this Kalanchoe blossfeldiana has been studied as a promising antioxidant in chronic diseases in rats… but not in humans yet…
not seen any papers about its use in RENAL STONE…
If there is reference for its use in Renal stone I shall really and greatly appreciate it.
since this K. blossfeldiana is a widely grown and loved houseplant… almost everybody has one on their kitchen table at least in the winter…

do you know about the reference to renal stone remerdy? is it this particular species???
i wish people who make therapeutics related comments would respond…..

ID Help :-

nice- regular kalanchoe v
very popular houseplant all over the world is very forgiving
only way to kill it is too much water everyday
even then can be revived just by stopping watering

bryophyllum and kalanchoe are synonyms

It is Bryophyllum

Thank you very much for details of this plant. I found it at Kamarkundu Railway Garden.According to F. B. I. and Bengal Plants :-

Calyx shortly 4-fid ——– Bryophyllum
Calyx deeply 4-partite —— Kalanchoe

I know you like FBI and Bengal plants. so I dont want to create controversy. basically nice books but remember they are very old.
things have changed. classifications have changed. things have been further classified ie separated or lumped back together.
just as it happens in cancer classification. if I followed 100 or 90 or 70 year old books to classify a tumor now… and not pay attention to what’s the latest … my colleagues and patients … even the guy off the street would laugh me off…
Please dont take this personally that’s the way the science works, you know that.. and may be we need to get newer classification schemes…keys
In more than 50 years of making diagnosis… I have learnt that nothing is ever fixed or written in stone.
no body died and went to heaven and came back to tell us the classification key is written in stone.
nothing is… this applies to rocks’ classification, botany and cancer among all the things that can be classified… or classifying human beings and their psyche… ever attempt it based on pre- freudian or pre- Jungian era’s schemes?
… perhaps can tell us the latest … details of the differences… between the bryophyllum and kalanchoe….

This Kalenchoe is growing even in my house which does not get sun for four winter months.

Thank you very much, i agree+understand all your points.
Following are links to differentiate Kalanchoe and Bryophyllum :-

yes the pendulous flowers is a sure way to differentiate
other points need dissection

27/1/2016 Pune

requesting to Id is ornamental plant at Pune

Kindly check for Kalanchoe blossfeldiana of Crassulaceae.

Commonly known as Flaming Katy.

Thank you for the Id. yes it is Kalanchoe dwarf

Kalanchoe blossfeldiana has flowers with four petals only.

this is a cultivar with double flowers or almost multiple layers of petals. reminiscent of minaiture roses.  nursery trade forces these massive flowering to make them attractive. comes in many colored flowers including even a yucky green flower (see this utube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtK7Ad_HKNU).

there is a cultivar called CALANDIVA series popular in houseplant shops selling with these massive flowers at top lasting a few weeks  once you bring them home… then just leaves if you are lucky to over summer them…. getting leggy  uninteresting and almost no flowers in the indian urban setting.

second flowering is difficult unless you know exactly how and have excperimented a lot.  I should know i aghve brought

lot of these home for late fall and early winter to cheer up the dreary winter blahs.

bottom line

this is Kalanchoe blossfeldiana CALANDIVA (registered) series.

oh i forgot to say…. dwarf kalanchoe still has four petaled flowers.

this case … you are showing is not the plant that is known in the trade as dwarf kalanchoe

Thank you so much for the correct Id and the link.

Check with Kalanchoe blossfeldiana,

One more photo.

The leaves of the said plant look quite similar to the images displayed when searched with the name you suggested on Google, but the inflorescence is quite different. I am guessing that this is a cultivated plant, and hence, the differences could be because of different cultivars.

It will be useful to receive other experts’ thoughts on this plant.

I agree with the id provided by …

Match quite well with images at Kalanchoe blossfeldiana

Thank you for the confirmation, and for sending the species page.
Yes, the photos on the species page match with the plant I have.
