VOF Week: Small Tree for Id from Gobind Ghat-Ghanghariya Trek: This one was shot from the trek…a large shrub or a small unarmed tree with whorled leaves and minute flowers, no fruits seen….hope to get clues…

Pl. post photo of the whole habit.

Check Cotoneaster racemiflora ?

Can this be a Gouania sp. from Rhamnaceae, this was an unarmed small tree from GobindGhat-Ghanghariya Trek..

I think it may turn out to be Sageretia thea as per details and references herein.

Interesting species. Uttarakhand has at least five species. Two are described a decade ago by Dr P.K. Pusalkar.

I will soon add a list of species in India based on flora of India and other sources.
One more thing- can we add author citation with the name of genus and family as we do with species name (eg Acanthaceae Juss., Acanthus Tourn. ex L.,  Dendrobium Sw., Oroxylum Vent.) on eFI pages. This addition will make eFI look more scientific. I tried it with Acanthus but then realized that it may change the web address of the page and will make it longer. Is there any other way so that it does not affect the web address? 

Thanks, …, One can just do it by editing. It does not change the web address.
But then it has to be changed everywhere to have consistency.
You can try doing that.
But then, it will make family and genus listings a bit longer and crowded at Home, A—L (families & genera) etc. and elsewhere.

Key to Sageretia species in Uttakhand: 

1A: Inflorescence a spike

  2A: Spike oblong, as long as or double the length of petiole of the subtending leaf (less than 1/3 the   subtending leaf lamina); flowers up to 12 in number …….. S. santapaui

  2B: Spike linear, more or less equalling subtending leaf lamina or sometimes smaller, but never less than ½ the length of subtending leaf; flowers 15-25 in number.… S. devendrae

1B: Inflorescence a panicle

  3A: Leaf length less than 2.0 cm …….. S. thea

  3B: Leaf length more than 2.5 cm

    4A: Abaxial leaf surface and petiole glabrous or sparsely hairy, especially in axil of veins; inflorescence spicate panicle with fascicled flowers …. S. hamosa

    4B: Petiole and adaxial surface of leaves pubescent or tomentose on veins; inflorescence a panicle with racemose branches …. S. filiformis

In view of above keys, it may be S. devendrae
Pl. check with other references.

I think matches with S. devendrae as per the publication Sageretia santapaui sp. nov. and S. devendrae sp. nov. (Rhamnaceae) from western Himalaya, India Nordic Journal of Botany 28(1):49 – 53 · October 2009 Prashant K. Pusalkar & D. K. Singh (Abstract- Two new species of Sageretia Brongn. (Rhamnaceae), S. santapaui Pusalkar & D. K. Singh and S. devendrae Pusalkar, are described and illustrated. Both species are allied to S. thea (Osbeck) M. C. Johnst., but differs in the pubescence of young branches, leaf shape, leaf margins, stipule shape, inflorescence type, length of the inflorescence, number and arrangement of flowers, bracteole number and shape.

And my insufficient pics cannot reveal more than that…!!
