PASSIFLORA QUADRANGULARIS:  I saw Passiflora Quadragularis (Giant Granadilla), for the first time at Forest Research Institute, Dehradun in 1987. Next I saw the plant at Tezpur in 2001.
According to NL Bor and B M Raizada this plant is a native of tropical America.
It bears large fruits. These are eaten as a vegetable. I have seen it being sold at Tezpur market. I tried the vegetable. It has got a mild flavour of Passion flower.
I collected a sapling from Tezpur. That climber is bearing flowers/fruits. Attaching images of flower and fruit of the plant.

– Correct me if I am wrong. It is also called ‘Panch Pandav’

There are different names in vernacular, for Passion Flower. Some people call it Pandav Kourav, in Assam it is known as Shankh-Chakra-Gada-Padma.

OBSERVATION :4( PREFERENCE OF HOST PLANT,LEOPARD LACE WING ) : Attachments (6). 5 posts by 5 authors.

I saw larva of Leopard Lace wing butterfly for the first time in 2007, on a Passiflora caerulea in 2007. According to literature larval food for this butterfly is Passiflora sp. There are three species of Passiflora in our garden. I observed that the butterfly prefer Passiflora holosericea to Passiflora caerulea. Recently I observed a female of Leopard Lace Wing laying eggs on the leaf of Passiflora quadrangularis. The eggs produced larva but they never matured to produce pupa. The same female laid eggs on the leaves of Passiflora holosericea and larva from those eggs matured, produced pupa and butterflies. Attaching 6 images of this observation.

I have also seen butterflies hovering over Passiflora climber, but the butterflies were Common Marmon and they lay eggs on citrus plants, so there were no eggs. And the climber is on the wall-grill, which next to road; and no butterfly will lay its eggs there.

Very Interesting observation … and nice series of photographs. Informative post..
