Low spreading gregarious shrub with adventitious roots. Young shoots rusty-hirsute. Leaves opposite, usually crowded at the ends of branchlets, oblanceolate to oblong or narrow lanceolate, 1.5 by 3.1-3.3 in., serrate along the upper half, membranous when young, thinly coriaceous when mature, glabrous above, slightly scabrid beneath with the midrib and the nerves strigose, lateral nerves 6-8 on either half, base 3 nerved, acute or narrowed into the petiole, margin entire, apex acuminate, petiole 0.5-1 in. long, Stipules lanceolate, Figs axillary on leafless branchlets of old stems, solitary, globose, with longitudinal ridges, covered densely with brown hairs, pedunculate. Male flowers calyx lobes 3-4, stamens 1, anthers obovoid, monandrous. Gall flowers calyx lobes transparent, perianth hyaline, ovary smooth, style lateral, short, stigma tubular. Female flowers style hairy, long, slender. Receptacles penduculate, solitary, usually axillary in clusters on old stem, pyriform, globose, verrucose, hispid with scattered bracts on the outside. Achenes ovoid. Syconus fruit. Seeds are passed through the alimentary canals of birds and other animals that feed on the fruits.
Wasps play an important role in pollination and reproduction of this species.
Susceptible to insect pests.
Along streams of forests at around 700 m altitude.

Pl. see an illustration at I am still confused. I have already seen this sketch in the web which says figure 56 as F. septica and Fig 5-7 as F squamosa which I could not find. Also, I want to see the real picture captured by others, but could find none. Does it mean that my pictures are the first real picture of F. squamosa ? Ficus squamosa !
