Spikelets 5-7 in a cluster, digitate, stellate, oblong, 1.5 x 0.4 cm, purple, 15-40-flowered; rachilla persistent, straight, corky, wingless; glumes ovate, to 2.5 mm, thin, mucro to 0.5 mm, erect or recurved, sides 7-9 nerved, throughout the whole length, keeled.
