Pycreus polystachyos is a cosmopolitan species, found throughout the temperate and tropical world. In India it is distributed in Assam, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.It is an annual or sometimes a perennial. It is found growing commonly in seasonally flooded places, damp places, in marshes, swamps, in rice fields, river banks and at the margins of pools. (from IUCN Red List (LC) )
