In India it is distributed in Assam, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.It is an annual or sometimes a perennial. It is found growing commonly in seasonally flooded places, damp places, in marshes, swamps, in rice fields, river banks and at the margins of pools.
