Kindly identify this Oberonia sp (Orchidaceae) Habit: Herb Habitat: Wild, epiphytic, evergreen forest Sighting: Chikmagalur, Karnataka, about 1100 msl Date: 02-07-2016 Very nice close ups, … Oh… I would say Oberonia brunoniana. But its hard to ID without proper closeup of flower. There are many more species from this section in Karnataka and more are being described. Thanks …, for your inputs.. I agree with you.The Oberonias of the South are enigmatic…..! I have many more specimen that are unidentified and I look forward to your expert opinion. I will be uploading them shortly….. and the constraint is that Oberonias are highly perched and getting their close up is rather difficult… Any way I will try to meet your requirements. 103-TSP-ID-01OCT2016-1: Oberonia sp (Orchidaceae) @ Mullaianagiri for ID : 5 posts by 3 authors. Kindly examine and identify this Oberonia sp (Orchidaceae) Habit:Herb Habitat:Wild,Epiphytic,Evergreen forest Sighting:Mullaianagiri,Chikmagalur,Karnataka, about 1700 msl Date:15-09-2016 All my IDs for your Oberonias are tentative. As flowers are smaller and I cant see many characters. I would say this is a big plant with really thick floral stalk which is sheathed by inflated vegetative leaf or fertile leaf, the bracts as I see at the base of some flowers looks like have dentate margin, not so big gap between front lobules of the mid lobe, hence this could be Oberonia brunoniana. 12-8-2015_TSP_Orchid_Gutti : 3 posts by 3 authors. Submitting images of an epiphytic Orchid sp for identification. ( Oberonia sp…..???)
Date/time:12-8-2015/ About 1-00 pm
Location: Gutti, Mudigere, Chikmagalur, Karnataka about 1100 msl
Habitat: Wild, Epiphytic
Habit: Herb.
Another painful orchid 🙂 I would say this is Oberonia balakrishnanii or burnoniana. I need a better closeup of the flower to confirm. I will go for Oberonia burnoniana because the side lobes of labellum is not coming up and overlaping. TSP21SEP2015-2: Oberonia sp for ID assistance. : 6 posts by 4 authors. I would call this Oberonia brunoniana Wight. The side lobes of labellum has distinct constriction with the midlobe. Midlobe is bilobed with a space in middle.
Although not easy to confirm. May be … can check.
Thanks for sharing. this is surely one of the following: Oberonia balakrishnanii
Oberonia brunoniana
Oberonia chandrasekharanii
Some on needs to study the Oberonia in souther part of India.
There is an urgent need. I find the monograph of Indian Oberonia by Ansari and Balakrishnan, sometimes not so reliable.
Some one listening sirs !! Yes … Oberonias need a revision… It’s a herculean task…. I am ok to call this Oberonia brunoniana.
