Orchids – unexpected surprises in the wild. – efloraofindia | Google Groups: Vaandaa – an Orchid plant
Orchids often present unexpected surprises in the wild.
(Kannada: Mara Ba`le, Tree Plantain )
Narimale camp, Bramha giri WLS
Coorg, Dec 2008.
MSL – 1418 meters, This is again Oberonia, but cant confirm the species. Just to add, Oberonias are not uncommon on trees adjacent to rivers in their respective areas. One of the most common to be found in such habitat in north to north eastern stretch of India is Oberonia ensiformis!! This species also corresponds with the huge size of this orchid in the pic. They bear orange flowers. I am not a professional .
This is probably some Oberonia sp. .
Kindly help to id this small plant. For me this looks like a parasite or might be an epiphyte on a host tree (Tamilnadia ulginosa). Have no idea on this.
This tiny plant is on the whole 5cm length and having reproductive parts as much as 3mm longer.
Location: Moist deciduous forests of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve
Date: 29 April 2010
This cute little plant is an Orchid called Oberonia. I will check the might be Eria dalzellii it is undoubtedly a species of Oberonia sp (Orchidaceae). I wouldn’t attempt idying the species from this picture because even with flowering specimen, I felt (several occasions) it is very difficult to id species the genus Oberonia. To me, I need a specimen with active flowers on the plant for species id. I fully agree with my friend … I even fail to id with flowers .
First one looks like aclump of ferns and second is some species of Oberonia. … should have an idea .
