A much branched, small bushy shrub.1.5-2.5 high with stiff dark brown branches woody; young branches pubescent downy.

Common in hilly area. Very hardy plant. Fruit edible

Fl. & Fr.: According to Bhandari flora-Dec-Feb, But I have seen Fl& Fr-Feb-June

Acacia jacquemontii, also called Baonḷī (Hindi: बंवळी, कीकर), a plant of the Thar desert, is an erect shrub usually 6 feet (1.8 m) to 10 feet (3.0 m) high, with multiple shoots coming from below ground. It commonly grows on dry sandy soils. It is very hardy, being capable of standing extremes of temperature and excessive drought. It is frost hardy and coppices well.

It is a fodder plant along with Ziziphus nummularia, which occurs in association with it.

Kindly identify this thorny shrub about 3-4 metres in height photographed in scrub forest on the fringes of the Sambhar Salt Lake, Rajasthan. Locally it was identified as “jharniya bambool” and “gulli“.

This is Vachellia (Mimosoideae).  Please check which are the species thriving there.

Vachellia jacquemontii (Benth.) Ali.  (Basionym: Acacia jacquemontii Benth.). The images are matching with the type.

I wish to inform that publication by Ali (Feb 2414) on this new combination antedates that of Ragupathy & al. (Mar. 2014) by one month and therefore the combination by Ali takes precedence.

Request for correction of genus name in e-mail-477435.:
I noticed a possible typo error in the genus name mentioned in the email subject as “Selaginella jacquemontii-477435”. Where “Selaginella” refers to a genus of fern allies, which may cause confusion, especially since the accompanying picture shows an angiospermic plant.
If possible, I kindly request that the subject be edited to reflect the correct genus name.
