Thorny Shrub for ID, Rajasthan NAW-MAY16-02 : 8 posts by 4 authors. Attachments (4)

Kindly identify this thorny shrub about 3-4 metres in height photographed in scrub forest on the fringes of the Sambhar Salt Lake, Rajasthan. Locally it was identified as “jharniya bambool” and “gulli“.

This is Vachellia (Mimosoideae).  Please check which are the species thriving there.

Pl. check with Vachellia jacquemontii (Benth.) Ragupathy, Seigler, Ebinger & Maslin, comb. nov. as per comparative images at  Vachellia. Also see http://www.efloras.org/object_page.aspx?object_id=115324&flora_id=5

Vachellia jacquemontii (Benth.) Ali.  (Basionym: Acacia jacquemontii Benth.). The images are matching with the type.

I wish to inform that publication by Ali (Feb 2414) on this new combination antedates that of Ragupathy & al. (Mar. 2014) by one month and therefore the combination by Ali takes precedence.
