This was photographed at “Taleran near Malshej ghat, Maharashtra”.

Local Marathi name: Burando

Bot. name: Blumea lacera

(Family: Asteraceae).

Its an annual herb, around 20 to 80 cm, smells like turpentine. Whole Plant is pubescent, ash grey coloured.

Leaves are alternate, obvate, sharply serrate, obtuse, base tapered. Flowers are bright yellow.

Plz id this herb growing on the ground in Mankhurd region. The leaves have a strong smell. The leaf in the photos are quite small but some of the leaf were quite big also.

I was told the tender leaves of this plant are used in cooking to lend aroma to the dish.

the leaf margin is spiny especially serratures; leaves thick, very hairy– it is Blumea oxydontaspecies epithet meaning oxy-sharp, dentos-with upward pointing teeth

This one was shot from Yamuna river adjoining Panipat..
resembles Laggera aurita.. but differs in being densely hairy, arrangement of heads….. shape, margin (they are nearly regularly dentate) and texture of leaves (here they are leathery)..
can this be a different species..

yes I think it may be B.oxydonta based on leaf and indumentum; to differntiate Blumea and Laggera we must observe the anthers.
