Date :19.02.2015
Location: Assam
Family : Loranthaceae
Genus & species : Helixanthera ligustrina (Wall.) Danser
Habitat: Grows as parasite on Zizyphus mauritiana
Habit : Stem parasite efi page on Helixanthera ligustrina Inflorescence and bud characters (except colour, though buds can be green as per eFI record), I think, qualify but the problems are (1) BSI doesn’t record the presence in Assam and (2) host species belong to different families.
Please wait for blooming flower, it should be pink or scarlet or yellow (BSI). I am really sorry, I missed the bud characters entirely. The flower seems to be 6-merous (please see the part of pic6 attached here). It is not Helixanthera ligustrina (Wall.) Danser.
Please check probability of Macrosolen cochinchinensis (Lour.) Tiegh. here is part of hte pic-6 Though there is no info on the host plant being a Rhamnaceae member, the buds in the attached plates suggest 6-merous flower, and it should be Macrosolen cochinchinensis (lour.) Looks different from Macrosolen cochinchinensis (Lour.) Tiegh. as I feel !
On through scrutiny as per details and comparative images at Macrosolen, it is Macrosolen cochinchinensis (Lour.) Tiegh. only, which is the only species found in Nepal.
Location: Sundarijal, Kathmandu
Date: 07 August 2020
Elevation: 1593 m.
Habit : Wild . Macrosolen cochinchinensis from Arunachal Pradesh: 3 high res. images. Kindly help me know if the distribution of M.cochinchinensis have been reported from Arunachal Pradesh or not. I tried but couldn’t find its distribution in AP. Attached herewith are photos of the same. Getting confused as per keys in BSI Flora of India. Pl. check.
Is the confusion about the distribution ? More about the keys.
Interestingly Checklist of Nepal gives Loranthus globosus Roxb. as a syn. of Macrosolen cochinchinensis (Lour.) Tiegh. I think we have to re-check all our ids in eFI based on these keys and GBIF specimens etc.
All databases say Loranthus globosus is the synonym of Macrosolen globosus (Roxb.) Tiegh. efloraNepal is also not 100 % accurate. Although treated as separate species they show affinities in some characters and flowers resambles each other to a greater extent. Although in my specimen leaf veins isn’t prominent on both surfaces and the midrib extends to the tip, also the corolla tube split just above the middle suggestive of M.globosus. So there is a possibility of both species being found there in Nepal. What about flowers prominently shouldered at angles? So far only cochinsinensis is recorded in Nepal ! Then why Checklist of Nepal gives Loranthus globosus Roxb. as a syn. of Macrosolen cochinchinensis (Lour.) Tiegh.? I have mentioned earlier that efloraNepal is also not 100 % accurate and the latest book by KK Shrestha et all has no mention about it nor any databases like POWO, GBIF, CoL, IPNI and WFO. Where are the leaves? Any comments in regard to “flowers prominently shouldered at angles?”? Sir I checked both species. Both shows shouldered edges. Slightly more in case of M.cochinchinensis. .
