yes must be planted. but still a surprise that it survived… of course it was used quite profitably by the east India company in parts of Punjab which is also lush… the continuous inland customs collecting ploy for salt movements acroos the indian continent … googling I found that the Prickly pear // opuntia was used in parts of Punjab… where other thorny plants wer e planted as an impentrable hedge a cross Inida … a british guy has written a book about it… dont have it now, but read it when it came out first..
