Pics taken on 07-01-20`12 – 1.30pm & [of different plant] on 09-01-2012 – 10.30am in Jungle Lodges, Lakkavally, Karnataka – on the high banks of the River Bhadravati. I find the last 3 pics an unusual stage of the flowers. I know these are not pics of bud or bract. Would like info -please. Also whatare ‘button’-like formations along the margins? I found these very interesting & wanted to share these pics with indiantreepix.
Seems to be Passiflora coccinea Aubl. Passiflora coccinea Kindly check for Passiflora vitifolia as in flowersofindia.

Passiflora coccinea Aubl.
I have a feeling that I have messed up this post. Thanks, …, I had these things in mind and would have certainly checked while incorporating in efi site. One of my flickr contacts studying, growing and hybridising passionflowers has validated the ID of posted plants to be Passiflora vitifolia. I have corrected my notes in flickr.

Cultivated ! Passiflora for id from Vikasnagar-2010:
This one is a long pending identification of a climber shot from boundary wall of a house in Vikasnagar, Uttrakhand. The pics were taken in September 2010. Surely they belong to Passiflora. Can this be P. coccinea. Unfortunately the flower not fully open. …, this may not be P. coccinea, which is suppose to have simple unlobed leaf. But I am not sure. This is Passiflora vitifolia as per images and details herein.
Does this variety fruit?: Your photograph is a proof that the plant flowers. The question you might be asking is : where(in which place)? Passiflora coccinea I Think Passiflora vitifolia I am sorry. This is not P.coccinea. This ornamental red passionflower is prolific in flowering. But no fruits are seenb. Commomly available in Pune Nursderies. Grows well in Kokan climate also. At least I have not seen for last 5-6 yrs. My understanding from the question is whether the plant/species produces fruit? I have seen this type of passionflower in a nursery and did not see any fruits. Only flower. The nursery lady told me that it is grown from cutting and it will take at least two years for the new planted one to flower. This was flowering profusely for a whole year, but not a single fruit. The regular purple passion flower gives lots of fruit tho in Bangalore. Incase you are interested. Passiflora vitifolia is native to south american countries from Brazil to Nicaragua… I have never seen any fruit on purple variety right from my childhood. If possible can you send these fruits photos sometime. Sent you a picture. I call this variety purple! Will send you a pic of the fruit when it appears. I have noticed this climber in several places at Coimbatore with flowers only, no fruiting was noticed. The question still remains…………………………. Passiflora vitifolia_RKC01_15072012:
