Strobilanthes neoasper, Eravikulam WLS First week of October 2018
Unfortunately because of the oncoming cyclone and heavy rainfall at that time, most of the flowers fell and the new buds had yet to flower as they need a few days of sunshine to do so.

i am glad you persisted in taking pictures. i got to see them

i am happy i persisted as well as it was quite an adventure. we almost cancelled the trip because of the floods but after speaking to really pleasant forest officer, we postponed the trip to October.
once we reached Munnar, we decided to visit Eravikulam on the first day of the trip which was fortunate for us as Eravikulam WLS was closed
from the next day due to approaching cyclone.

Tamil name of Strobilanthes neoaspera Venu & P.Daniel:

I found one name on the internet in the Tamil script for Strobilanthes neoaspera, which I am pasting here … வெள்ளைக் குறிஞ்சி.
I think it transcribes to vellai-k-kurinji.
Please help validate the name.

It seems that the flower color in this species is variable, from white to pale blue to purple (as shown in the pictures on POWO).
The name வெள்ளைக் குறிஞ்சி vellai kurinji (vellai = white, likely referring to flower color) is appropriate for the pale or white-flowered form, but it won’t be accurate and could cause confusion when applied to other forms.

Shall we coin a name on lines of the English coined name – rough coneflower ?
Kannada and Malayalam names are coined on the same lines.
Thus rough or coarse “kurinji” ?
