Please ID these yellow flowers captured at Rajgad near Pune in Dec 2014.
Are they Senecio edgworthii?
efi page on Senecio edgeworthii
Pentanema cernuum (Dalzell) Ling
The leaves here definitely look different which must be the differentiating character from the common Pentanema indicum
For a layperson, the Senecios and the like are very difficult to identify/differentiate.

Thank you very much … for leading to this ID, and for the literature.
The flower images mentioned in my post forwarded below, should be of Vicoa cernua (Syn: Pentanema cernuum) only, as per the following paper
https://www.biotaxa.org/Phytotaxa/article/view/phytotaxa.514.3.7
As per this paper, Vicoa gokhalei is a synonym of Vicoa cernua. The species which the authors, describing Vicoa gokhale, considered to be Vicoa cernua (the one with virtually invisible ray florets) is now described as a new species Vico sahyadrica.
We have to see the publication before making any final decision.
I had mailed you the paper long back – it appears you have not received it, strangely. I am attaching it here

Vicoa gokhalei in 2020, as per details herein.
This again highlights the treasure trove present in efloraofindia, yet to be discovered.
Yes …, very true
Yes … In fact I had seen this plant in the year 2007 at Vasota fort in Maharashtra.
If possible, you may add your picture(s) of the plant to eFI for sake of records.

Vicoa indica (L.) DC. :: Kalsubai Harishchandragad WLS :: Apr 7, 2026 · 8:24 AM IST: 4 images.
Paachnai – Harishchandragad, altitude range 1100 – 1300 m asl
I think this is Vicoa cernua as per
http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Drooping%20Golden%20Daisy.html
| Feature | Vicoa cernua | Vicoa indica |
| Flower Head Posture | Drooping (nodding) on slender stalks | Erect (upright) on slender stalks |
| Ray Florets (“Petals”) | Higher count: 20 to 40 petals | Lower count: 12 to 24 petals |
| Leaf Base | Narrower, tapering base with very short stalks | Stalkless (sessile) with rounded “ears” (auricles) clasping the stem |
Pl. check the phyllaries or the calyx.
- The flower heads are erect (upright) on slender stalks (and not drooping / nodding on slender stalks)
- The leaf base is stalkless (sessile) with rounded “ears” (auricles) clasping the stem (not narrower, tapering base with very short stalks).

Pl. check these phyllaries (attached) of the calyx.

Vicoa sahyadrica (Asteraceae), a new species from Western India with a note on Dalzell’s Vicoa cernua and Heracleum grandiflorum– MAYUR D. NANDIKAR
& MILIND M. SARDESAI- Phytotaxa 514 (3): 275–286 17 Aug. 2021 (Abstract: Recently described two new species, viz. Pinda shrirangii (Apiaceae) and Vicoa gokhalei (Asteraceae), are reviewed for their taxonomy. An illegitimate Heracleum grandiflorum Dalzell & Gibson (non Steven ex M. Bieb.) is recognised as conspecific with P. shrirangii and proposed as a new synonym of the latter. Vicoa gokhalei is found to be conspecific with V. cernua Dalzell. Consequently, Vicoa cernua sensu Gosavi et al. with inconspicuously ligulate ray florets and more pappose achenes is described here as a new species, viz. Vicoa sahyadrica Nandikar & Sardesai.)
