commonly known as: mountain barleria • Marathi: डोंगरी कोरांटी dongari koranti, कोळिस्ता kolista • Malayalam: bana •Tamil: மேகவண்ணக்குறிஞ்சி mekavanna-k-kurinci • Telugu:.
.
As per efi thread:
Corolla tube is white inside in Barleria prattensis and not so in Barleria montana
.
Here are the keys from Revision of the Genus Barleria (Acanthaceae) in India (2010):
1. Seeds hairy ………….. B. montana
1. Seeds glabrous ……… 2
2. Outer sepals 2.5 – 4 cm long; corolla 6 – 8 cm long, pink; capsules 2 – 3 cm long ..….. 3
2. Outer sepals 5 – 6 cm long; corolla more than 12 cm long, white; capsules 3 – 4.5 cm long .…… B. grandiflora
3. Stems slender; corolla bilipped; stamens eglandular at base ..……. B. prattensis
3. Stems stout; corolla not bilipped; stamens glandular-pubescent at base …….. B. gibsonii
.
Both Barleria montana and B. prattensis resemble in their general morphology hence may be confusing. Calyx features seem to be variable so cannot be wholly relied on. But the seed character is distinct enough to distinguish the two species. According to Shendage & Yadav (2010, Revision of genus Barleria in India):
Seeds clothed with appressed-silky hairs ————– Barleria montana
Seeds glabrous ———————————— Barleria prattensis
.

It may be Dyschoriste species

Barleria prattensis, I suppose.

Supporting …

After pursuing all the threads at Barleria prattensis and Barleria montana and confusing with detailed description and keys as at Barleria montana? for some time, I finally got clarity.
Descriptions given for the two are overlapping. What stands is the corolla tube being white in Barleria prattensis and not so in Barleria montana
In view, it is Barleria montana

Barleria prattensis,

It is B. montana as corolla tube is not white.

It is confusing. It looks like both. I think …, the person who has posted need to verify the characters & arrive at the conclusion.

Is it a species of Barleria?

Mountain Barleria (Barleria montana)?

Yes, it is Barleria montana.

Pl. confirm it as Barleria prattensis Santapau as per another thread or otherwise.

Yes …, it is Barleria prattensis.

Many many thanks … for this clarity. Though both look similar, I am keen that someone shares with us their collection of B. montana. There is none in the group’s database at present!

Thanks … Yes we need to see authentic pictures (supported with characterization of seeds) for comparison.

Looks very similiar with Barleria cristata

Barleria montana only,

There is no serrate bracts.
because of it’s not cristata

Barleria montana? : 11 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (5)- around 1 mb each.
Found in Parvuthamalai hills of Eastern ghats.

To me appears more close to Barleria prattensis Santapau than Barleria montana Nees as per images and details herein.

Nice pictures …!
Both Barleria montana and B. prattensis are morphologically similar, hence often confusing. I remember collecting Barleria montana from Paruvathamalai hills. The seeds in this species are hairy. If you see glabrous seeds, then it could be B. prattensis.
Also refer to the paper in this link for additional differences and details: researchgate

Any further views in the matter ?

May be B montana.
B prattensis not recorded in Thiruvannamalai district as per TN flora.

Pl. find out the details from the link … has sent you.

It’s matching with B montana.
