This small ornamental shrub is common here in Pantnagar (Uttarakhand).
Seems Justicia spicigera (Acanthaceae). Please suggest correct ID.
It does seem like Justicia spicigera to me too.
I think Pachystachys coccinea (Aubl.) Nees (syn: Jacobinia coccinea (Aubl.) Hiern). Pachystachys coccinea (Syn: Justicia lutea, Justicia coccinea, Jacobinia coccinea) Justicia spicigera Schltdl. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/37345/ could not find any images of Jacobinia tinctoria or Justicia tinctoria on the web. …, you have a keen eye, keep it up Frankly, I don’t even know what fusiform means – most of us in this group are not botanists. However, I am unable to see any significant different between the leaves and flowers in your picture, and those in the links that I had sent. Or may be this one: Fusiform means an elongated structure broader in the middle and narrowed at two ends. I am descriptions of two species from Flora of Costa Rica. Some more photos are attached here, recorded yesterday. The species might be Cyrtanthera ghiesbreghtiana Decne. (Justicia ghiesbreghtiana). If this could be a synonym of Justicia spicigera, i think, needs further exploration. Some interesting reading :-
efi page: Justicia spicigera, no efi page on Cyrtanthera ghiesbreghtiana Decne. (Justicia ghiesbreghtiana) A few more links –
If i go by the above sites it is not J. spicigera.
But, it surely matches with https://groups.google.com/indiantreepix/RkJ and with https://groups.google.com/indiantreepix/aAtNIJ It may be Justicia spicigera ‘Sidicaro’ or some other hybrid as per

Date/Time : 9th of January, 2008. … just guessing … species of Tecomaria ? If I had to guess, I might have gone for Aeschynanthus (Gesneriaceae). I think I am wrong, sorry…. 🙁 Is it Tecoma capensis? I thought Justicia tinctoria (Oerst.) D. Gibson (syn: Jacobinia tinctoria (oerst.) Hemsl. Or could it be Ruellia sps…may be elegans??!! I think this to be Gesneriaceae, most probably some Aeschynanthus. Looks like Justicia spicigera to me – can’t be sure though.
Requesting ID of this plant – Jijamata Udyan – Feb 2014 :: 01032014 :: ARK-02 : 19 posts by 5 authors. Attachments (5).
Requesting to please ID this plant captured at the Jijamata Udyan (as a hedge plant) in February 2014.
It seems to be a climber. I have also seen, photographed and posted this plant from Jijamata Udyan earlier.
I could not get its correct id.
On searching, the closest match is Ruellia amoena. Thanks … for the feedback… but I think the flower structure of Ruellia amoena looks different.. Justicia spicigera. Thanks for finally resolving the long pending id of this ornamental. Thank you … for providing this ID. Is it Tecomaria sp.? Thank you …, however I coud not find matching images of any Tecomaria species on the net… How about Justicia spicigera.? Thank you … for the ID, … had also suggested the same. However, while googling with this ID, I found that there was some variation in the shape of the lower lip of the flower posted and the pics available on the net (the lower lip of the pics of flower available on the net are curled whereas this is not the case in the pics above), the leaves also appear a bit different.
I was wondering whether this variation was okay?
However, since 2 experts have given their verdict, I take it as Justicia spicigera..
