Hooghly Today : Amaranthus spinosus Linnaeus :
Don’t know how Amarantus in “Bengal Plants” became Amaranthus these days but this is surely Amaranthus spinosus Linnaeus, or KANTA-NOTEY (কাঁটা নোটে) (KANTA NUTIA in Bengal Plants), a very common herb on roadside and wasteplace.
ID Help :

This thorny Amaranthus is not very common near our area in Pune as against the more common weed Amaranthus viridis.

It is very very common here, …, found in everywhere, yet to see Amaranthus viridis, ….maybe there are many, didn’t notice carefully.

Amaranthus ??  Please check Amaranthus spinosus L. !

Please confirm wheather it is A.hybridus or A.cruentus

Not spinosus

I will go with A.hybridus

Why not Amaranthus spinosus L. ?

A.hybridus closely matches with my specimen….. … also reported it from kashmir

Needles were absent

I can clearly see the spines. To me it is Amaranthus spinosus L.

Yes spines are present at the base

So what have you decided ?

I agree with … !. Amaranthus spinosus

I also agree with …  yes it is A.spinosus
