Why Catalogue of Life gives it as a synonym for Ceropegia saldanhae (Britto & Bruyns) Bruyns ?

Yes technically speaking brachystelma saldanhae is syn on B.mahajanii
i am not sure i understand … response As this species was described in 2016, there must be some publication after that which must have shifted it to Ceropegia, as considered by Catalogue of Life. Can we find that? Prof. Peter V. Bruyns is so kind enough to share the details I requested regarding Brachystelma saldanhae with a wonderful article entitled “A revised, phylogenetically-based concept of Ceropegia (Apocynaceae)”. He has provided the following information on my query.
Prof. Peter V. Bruyns:
“The photos you sent are of Ceropegia saldanhae. This is not the same species as C. mahajanii. A very detailed explanation of why these changes were made is contained in the paper I have attached here. Perhaps you would like to read through it and see for yourself why this was done. Perhaps the most important facts are that the Indian Brachystelmas are NOT related to the African ones and that both groups are nested deeply within different groups of Ceropegia.” The article attached (more than 8 MB) herein this mail is really a great contribution which has provided many insights regarding Ceropegia. So, Brachystelma saldanhae is now Ceropegia saldanhae. The name given in the Catalogue of Life is updated one. References: |
