Common name Calico Flower. It looks like Aristolochia species Yes it is Aristolochia sp. The species forwarded to me is Aristolochia littoralis Parodi. Could be Aristolochia gigantea. This is Aristolochia species. In all probablities it is Aristolochia elegans. I think Aristolochia littoralis Parodi. Family: Aristolochiaceae. It is Aristolochia littoralis. I have also photographed it from Botanical Garden’s green house, Warsaw.

Thanks … The posted plant, clearly has a conspicuous ear-like structure (auriculate pseudo-stipule) at the base of each leaf stalk. Thus, as per keys, will be not A. gigantea. I suggest we also pay heed to the fruits which are different looking among the above listed species. Will return to this post when I find the plant in flowering as well as fruiting. Updating this post with the concluded ID … Aristolochia elegans Mast. … as per discussion in another post. Waiting for flower … 🙂 Yes … I have not been lately to this park. I have however seen flowering of Aristolochia elegans in another garden of Thane, and posted its pictures in this post. The chief gardener takes care of both parks. But some day I hope to get pictures of flowers from this site. After going through the recent discussion on Aristolochia, I am posting my pictures from a plant nursery in Nasik.

Yes …, the plants at Dattaji Salvi Udyan as well as TMC Biodiversity Park, both are having small ear-like structure (i.e. auriculate pseudo-stipule) at the base of each leaf stalk – thus would be Aristolochia elegans as per keys. Aristolochia gigantea in FOI : 7 posts by 2 authors.
Aristolochia gigantea in FOI id may not be correct as per differences/ keys at the bottom at Lucid Central.
The size of the flower seems to be quite large here – see the first pic on FOI with large branch/trunk of a tree in the background. With that size, Aristolochia gigantea and Aristolochia grandiflora are possibilities. I have attached a picture showing the fruit, which is from the second pic on FOI. P.S. Sivaprasad may provide more input on it. Attachments (1) – 757 kb.
As per Lucid Central link: giant dutchman’s pipe (Aristolochia gigantea ) does not have a small ear-like structure (i.e. auriculate pseudo-stipule) at the base of each leaf stalk, which I see in your site.

Set1 is A. elegans and Set2 can not be IDd with just leaves, need flowers to confirm. At least three species of Aristolochia are mixed up in these pictures. I need this plant for my Butterfly Garden. For butterfly garden almost all species of Aristolochia can be used. Picture 1 and Picture 3 are Aristolochia elegans. Picture 2 is Aristolochia indica. Picture 4 is Aristolochia tomentosa.

Could the members of this esteemed group help confirm the identify of a beautiful flower growing on a vine at the City Forest/Nagar Van, Chandigarh.
The vine is currently in bloom and was identified by a flower enthusiast as Aristolochia elegans. Yes sir it is Aristolochia elegans

Could the members assist in shedding light on two possible aspects of this vine of the Aristolochia: 1. Since it is an exotic, does it count among the invasive species that stifle or overwhelm native Indian species of flora? 2. Does this vine ultimately ‘choke’ the tree or sap its strength, i.e., is this vine a parasitic plant? I’m not certain if it is A. elegans or A. grandiflora. … you are right. Difficult to say without side views and some measurements.
