This is very common ornamental herb that can be found everywhere in this season. A similar looking plant has been identified as Calendula officinalis in FoI.
Is this the same plant as in FoI?
How a layman can differentiate between various similar looking ornamentals, like zinnia, chrysanthemum, dahlia, cosmos, helianthus…. etc ?

Seen at a cultivated garden in July, 2017.
Looks like Calendula to me.

very likely but thats where it stays. calendula sp.

i see there is borage nearby. may be this was a herbal planting, making presence of calendula quite likely

Thanks for your feedback. This was at a place called Earth Centre in New Jersey.

Near New brunswick  there is earth center and another bigger one near Princeton. which one?

Probably the one near New Brunswick.
Was taken by my friend, I’m not familiar with the places in New Jersey since it was a short stay.

If it is Calendula, we have only one in efi site with its cultivars:
/species/a—l/ar/asteraceae/asteroideae/calenduleae/calendula/calendula-officinalis

you are right, … if its a herbal garden. its most likely C. officinalis. but it is still a bud trying to open. i suspect it might be the double variety. but that’s just a guess

scientifically a guess can not be a diagnosis.
Calendula officinalis is a much loved much used herb, even in tea drinking.
it behoves one to be careful to call and identify an incomplete set of photographs with a definitive name. that’s all

did it look like this? this picture is from Middlesex county website, url: Middlesexcounty

The E.A.R.T.H. Center in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park at 42 Riva Ave., in South Brunswick, is the headquarters for Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County. it says they have 13 bed herb garden.
The reason you want to know name of it is, you can always ask, what did they plant? these places always has a large sign proclaiming their name, year of start etc
since advent of digital camera, i always take i a picture of the name plate, and buildings if any…. does not cost anything….

I didn’t see the whole place. It was a very short trip, depending on the free time my friend could spare for me. Thanks for all the efforts.

Thanks … I will take it as Calendula officinalis only.
