Asteraceae herb from Thirthan valley area

Where is Thirthan Valley?

I think … might be referring to Tirthan valley, which is in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, near GHNP.. This plant seems to be an escape from cultivation, most probably Coreopsis sp.

Pl. check comparative images at genus page in efi site,  if so.

Pl. check images at /species/a—l/ar/asteraceae/asteroideae/coreopsideae/coreopsis-species/coreopsis-auriculata

Please check Coreopsis lanceolata L. .

I think it is close to images at Coreopsis auriculata L. (going by the leaves) as per comparative images at Coreopsis

On Google search for differences between the two species, AI view gives the following:

Coreopsis auriculata (Lobed or Mouse-Eared Coreopsis) and Coreopsis lanceolata (Lanceleaf Coreopsis) are both popular perennial flowers, but they have distinct characteristics. Coreopsis auriculata is known for its lobed leaves and orange-yellow flowers, often spreading through rhizomes to form dense clumps. Coreopsis lanceolata, on the other hand, has lance-shaped leaves and bright yellow flowers, typically growing in a more upright, clump-forming manner.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:
Coreopsis auriculata (Lobed Tickseed):
  • Leaves: Distinctive oval or rounded leaves that are often lobed, resembling mouse ears, hence the alternative name Mouse-Eared Coreopsis.
  • Flowers: Bright yellow to orange-yellow daisy-like flowers.
  • Growth Habit: Spreads by rhizomes, forming dense, creeping clumps. Some cultivars like ‘Nana’ are dwarf varieties.
  • Native Range: Southeastern United States.
Coreopsis lanceolata (Lanceleaf Tickseed):
  • Leaves: Lance-shaped (long and narrow) leaves.
  • Flowers: Bright yellow, daisy-like flowers with flat yellow center disks.
  • Growth Habit: Taller and more upright than C. auriculata, forming clumps.
  • Native Range: North America.
