efloraofindia:”For Id 10032012MR3’’ what is the name of this butterfly @ Pune:

Please Id this blue butterfly on Tridax procumbens at Pune

Difficult as stated by …, but this could be the Common Cerulean.

The size of the butterfly when compare to the Tridax inflorescence, suggests that this is a smaller butterfly.

I mean, smaller for this to be Common Cerulean. I feel this would be something like Cupid.
Common Cerulean has a thick dark band on the edge of  fore-wing and there are few dark spots in the hind wing. http://www.flickr.com/photos/niyo/5348062037/

Can this be some Blumea species?

Tridox procumbens

Capitula solitary ?

This is not T.procumbens.

some Bidens sp.?

I do not think matches with any species as per comparative images at Bidens

I don’t know, Madam, if you still access eFI site or receive emails from the group. I didn’t forget that in those days we had certain personal communication over this species. But I was not ready then, and asteraceae is still complicated to me.
However, this plant should be Tridax procumbens L., not the usual form we see around. (POWO).
It took me 9-long years!!!

What is worrying is the multiple heads instead of solitary heads.

Initially it was my concern too, Sir. But then I thought those heads are actually in early stages of developing individual peduncle. Please check the attached plates – two from uploaded set and the other two plates from photographs I captured this afternoon.

Thank you so much, …, for solving this puzzle.

Indeed. it is a great relief.

Thank you Sir, my relief too, because I noticed capitula are identical, yet the specimen is very unfamiliar. When I noticed that Paradesi ji suggested the id I wanted to dig more.
