Yes … is correct. This is Begonia picta, a very common herb in rock crevices and mist places both in Eastern and Western Ghats.

This common Begonia was shot from many locations in the area this AugustBegonia picta Sm.

Beautiful delicate beauty. It lights up the shady moist darker corners on steep slopes.
Not only the flowers but leaves are also colourful.

Painted Leaf Begonia : 2 posts by 2 authors.
Last Sunday I photographed this Painted Leaf Begonia (Begonia picta) to share with you. Local villagers collect the leaves to make a tangy chutney. Along with the Three-petal Begonias (Begonia dioica) these monopolise much of the mountain slopes.

Begonia picta? ABJUL01/23 : 3 posts by 2 authors. 4 images.

Found these near the town this morning. The stalks and the back of the flowers were covered in white hair and the flowers were very light pink, almost white, similar to that of B. dioica. The leaves were still green and hence difficult to tell for certain that they were B. picta leaves. Next to the flowering plant there were several mature picta leaves, pointing logically that my plant was of the same species, but I could be wrong. Please advise.

Found a large bumblebee (don’t know which kind) rollicking inside a B. picta collecting nectar and coating itself with pollen. I have several pictures of Begonias to share and questions to ask too. I will post more soon.

very nice tricolored bumble bee with orange yellow and black
the orange can be reddish, as in you bee
lovely and yes its b. picta

/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/_MG_2057_22August15.jpg
The male and female flowers (five petalled) of B. picta occur on the same plant very often. Please correct me if I am mistaken. 2 images.

all begonias that i have grown or seen very often in gardens are all monoecious..
i.e. male and female flowers occur in the same plant
b picta is no exception
some hybrids have “double ” flowers and single flowers … male and female respectively…
the pacific bulb society has a nice page

Thank you … for clarifying this.

Begonia … ???

I think Begonia picta again.

begonia picta by definition is pictured leaf. i dont see any other color other then green unless what looks like light reflection//hiighlights in this pictures by the presentor is really colored areas. no way to know. how can the we have much confidence in the naming?

B. picta is very variable species, especially with respect to leaf variegation. However this plant has fewer stamens arranged asymmetrically. Not sure!
