Boraginaceae Week: Ehretia laevis from Panipat 2012: 7 images.
This is Ehretia laevis Roxb., Pl. Corom. 1: 42, t. 56, 1795; Collett, Fl. Simlensis 330.
A moderate-sized, deciduous tree with smooth, grey bark. Leaves 7-14 cm long, elliptic, obtuse or acuminate, entire, membraneous when young, hard when mature. Flowers white, small, in terminal or axillary, slender, usually one-sided cymes. Calyx 5-cleft. Corolla-tube 2.5 cm long, petals 5, spreading. Stamens 5. Fruit a 0.5 cm across drupe, globose, depressed, red.

Very nice crisp photographs.
The leaves do not appear glabrous. I think this is Ehretia aspera. Let us wait for opinion of others.

Yes, this doesn’t seem to be Ehretia laevis because the fruits are not 2-lobed. Likely to be Ehretia aspera.

the acuminate apex and leaves size also support to the Ehretia aspera

Thanks for your help.
It almost matches with Ehretia cymosa
Attached another picture with unripened fruit.

This particular photograph [42c54094-bed4-40de-a50e-ea917cd98f34.jpg] is of a Premna sp. [Lamiaceae / ex-Verbenaceae]. It is an altogether different plant from the image of the Ehretia sp. [20170711_175627.jpg] posted in the first email of this thread.

Thanks for clearing. The forest I go has trees with almost same size every where green. I think that’s why I am confusing with different species.  Sorry for confusion.

Not Ehretia cymosa Thonn. ?. Can it be Ehretia aspera Willd. as per images herein?

I will get more pictures with bark, tree size and leaves enlarged

The tree is Ehretia

It is Ehretia pubescens/ Ehretia laevis var. pubescens (Benth.) C.B. Clarke

Small Tree for ID – Hyderabad – 12032014-NAW1 : 11 posts by 5 authors. 7 images.
Kindly identify this small tree or big shrub 4-5 metres tall growing in a park but probably wild.
Photographed on the 13th March 2014.
Minute white flowers in inflorescence on the ends of branches (in the 5th picture you can see a small ant in the inflorescence for scale). new leaves lighter green and more hairy. mature leaves 6-7 cm long.

It may be Ehretia pubescens.

Is this Persea americana : Avocado plant????

Not Persea atleast
5 corolla lobes are seen plus small calyx outside, bilobed style is also seen

efi page on Ehretia laevis (syn: ……… Ehretia pubescens Benth.; …………)

Yes, it looks like Ehretia pubescens

So is Ehretia pubescens the same as Ehretia laevis or a different species?
I checked Trees of Andhra Pradesh by T. Pullaiah and Sandhya Rani pg 356, where both are described as different species. The flowers of this plant seem to me different from those of Ehretia laevis as shown on the flowers of india website.

Thanks, …,
I have been following- Ehretia pubescens Benth. is a synonym of Ehretia laevis Roxb. as per The Plant List in efi page at Ehretia laevis
Can you bring out the differences given in Trees of Andhra Pradesh by T. Pullaiah and Sandhya Rani ?
May be the experts can help in sorting out this issue.

Im not very conversant with botanical jargon. below I quote extract from page 354

“…
1. Leaf margin entire. Drupe with 4 pyrenes:
2. Leaves scabrous beneath……..E. canarensis (now syn. of E. laevis)
2. Leaves not scabrous beneath,…
3. Leaves asymmetrical, base cuneate……E. laevis
3. Leaves symmetrical, base rounded or obtuse, acute:
4. Secondary nerves 4-5 pairs, distant irregular…….E. pubescens (now syn. of E. aspera)
4. Secondary nerves 6-7 pairs, close regular……..E. aspera

here are the differences between the 2 species
Ehretia laevis Roxb.:- branches and ventral side of leaves pubescent.
Flowers sessile white in 1 sided short racemes. drupes globose, orange-red.
Ehretia pubescens Benth. – branchlets stout, lenticellate, pale brown, younger parts softy hairy. leaves scabrous; flowers in corymbose cymes; fruit black when ripe.

Keys can be written in different ways taking different criterion.

Identification required…from Punjab Pakistan : 8 posts by 4 authors. Attachments (4)- around 350 kb each.
Kindly identify this small tree present in a scrub forest Punjab Pakistan

This appears to be an Ehretia sp. [Boraginaceae].

For me also it looks like Ehretia species.

Thank you Sir. What about Ehritia obtusifolia?

Could be. But it is necessary to compare the flowers/ fruits before confirmation.

Flora of Pakistan gives, Ehretia laevis var. aspera C. B. Clarke as a syn. of Ehretia obtusifolia
Bur following Catalogue of Life, it gives it a syn. of Ehretia aspera Willd.
There is lot of confusion about taxonomy of Ehretia in different sources.I feel it may be Ehretia aspera Willd. as per images and details herein.
