Cleome hassleriana, commonly known as spider flower or spider plant,[1] is a species of flowering plant in the genus Cleome of the family Cleomaceae, native to southern South America in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and southeast Brazil.[2]

It is an annual growing to a height of 150 cm (60 in), with spirally arranged leaves. The leaves are palmately compound, with five or seven leaflets, the leaflets up to 12 cm (5 in) long and 4 cm (2 in) broad and the leaf petiole up to 15 cm (6 in) long. The flowers are purple, pink, or white, with four petals and six long stamens. The fruit is a capsule up to 15 cm long and 3 mm (0.1 in) broad, containing several seeds. Flowering lasts from late spring to early fall.[1]
C. hassleriana is commonly cultivated in temperate regions as a half-hardy annual. Numerous cultivars have been selected for flower color and other attributes. The “Queen” series includes the cultivars ‘Violet Queen’, ‘Rose Queen’, and ‘White Queen’. The cultivar ‘Helen Campbell’ has gained the Royal Horticultural Society‘s Award of Garden Merit.[3]
Plants in cultivation have at times been misidentified as Cleome arborea, C. pungens or C. spinosa.[2]

I have grown this plant myself.

Please check the references:   www. toptropicals.com, www.davesgarden.com and many other websites as well as horticulture books.

–  … me too believe it to be Cleome hassleriana … presently known as Tarenaya hassleriana (syn. Cleome arborea, Cleome hasslerana, Cleome houtteana, Cleome pungens, Cleome spinosa)

This is a plant that grows in Monsoon. I have beeen seeing it since childhood in Goa. It is planted and natural both. Seeds fall and grow.
The plant : Small plant about 5 ft height. Soft.
Leaves : Somewhat Like Tapioka Plant.
Flowers : Pink colour with long petals. Flowers bloom in the evening. Other variety also White flowers.
Pods : About 6-7 cm long round cross section.
Seeds : Look almost like Elaechi seeds.
Month : September

We almost always had it during Ganesh festival and were used during evening …
It has in interesting pattern when the bud opens in to flower. A separate picture shown.

This is a species of Cleome (spider flower).

Please check for Cleome hassleriana ?

…, perhaps Cleoserrata speciosa.

I am not aware of the difference(s) between Cleoserrata speciosa and Cleome hassleriana. … to me look-wise the former is all pink and does not seem as striking as hassleriana.

Thank you … I can only add (about the colour) that the flowers that I have photographed last about 3-4 days and as they become older the petal color fades.
Then petals fall off one by one.

Thanks … It is quite possible. Cleoserrata speciosa. was earlier known as Cleome pentaphylla/ Gynandropsis grandiflora.  Link https://indiabiodiversity.org/species/show/278412.

Difference between the two is hairyness of the sepals.

I was not aware about all these nuances at the time I took the photo.  However I feel the sepals in the flowers I shared are not hairy.
My memory (a little old) and the zoomed in photos suggest that.
2 images.

Cleome hassleriana sepals are glabrous. I mean do not possess hairs.

Cleome speciosa from Gori Valley Area Uttarakhand

Beautiful flower! More importantly, it is not listed in checklist of flowering plants of Uttarakhand. Should be a new addition to Uttarakhand.

Cleome speciosa
seems to be naturalized at many places in India.
It must have established itself as garden escape initially.

I have observed it at the entrance of Kudremukh sanctuary.

It is growing gregariously in Mulshi on way to Lavasa near Pune. near human habitations.

It may become a weed..

One more new thing learned on this forum in last few minutes is that the correct name on GRIN seems to be Cleoserrata speciosa and Cleome speciosa is its synonym
