I never knew the leaves were supposedly hirsuite Link to earlier upload Though I have not seen this species yet the leaves are densely appressed hairy or silky underneath as per Haines in “Botany of Bihar and Orissa”. if this thread pictures are Evolvulus alsinoides then the rajasthan pictures are not two different creatures look at the thickness of individual hair and their abundace flower and leaf size and shape are also different Thank you …, I do not know. may be difference of young plant or plant in lush environment vs rajasthan’s dry land
but only a thorough study of several plants from each place and of plants of various ages …young, flowering beginning, ending flowering and seed production (i believe these are annuals in the wild, so can be studied in one season) untill then these two seem to be different creatures

Sharing some images of Evolvulus alsinoides, a spreading, prostrate perennial with a woody rootstock.
Photographed last week (6.7.15) on Madh Hill, North Mumbai. This creeping herb is locally known as ‘Vishnukrant’ and supposed to be a brain tonic.
Occasionally seen as weed in the gardens. shouln’dt the flower be pinkish? sort of or are they both types?
i remember seeing some bluish+pinkinsh (not really violetish) in dry lands between Dwarka and Jamnagar in 2000 and 01. please tell me I have come across only these blue flowers. Don’t know if this plant exhibits any variation in the flower colour. ok. something to remember

seems it was popular in nursery trade a few years ago The Evolvulus grown in hanging basket is an ornamental species E.glomeratus. It looks very similar! Evolvulus alsinoides is wild and one of the shanku pushpis’ used in Aayurveda in South. Both are seen nearby my house. One in wild and another in a garden ! i know. thats why i was surprised that some one in Hugli district (WB) was able to grow it (because its very rainy and humid here). so i paid a lot of money to buy it but after a season in the balcony i did not get any seeds.
where as in Saurashtra around Dwarka etc it self seeded and grew in abundance.

I think the long pedicel is good characteristic of E. alsinoides; I am not sure of E. glomeratus pedicel length. Any way the E. glomeratus flower is relatively quite large. my hanging basket flowers were small about 1 to less than 2 cms I am sending the photographs of E.glomeratus grown on a neighbor house compound wall. The area where the E.alsinoides was present was cleared by the Corporation (cleaning drive).. Nevertheless, I will spot somewhere else and post you the photographs. Habitat : Wild Superb upload. The ID is correct. This is a common weed here. Plenty around my house. A very useful medicinal plant used in Ayurveda / native medicine. The whole plant is used in form of decoction in nervous debility and loss of memory. The plant is also useful as blood purifier and in bleeding piles. The fresh flowers with sugar are eaten as a brain tonic. The leaves are made into cigarettes and smoked in chronic bronchitis and asthma.
