Came across this one on the way to Kalsubai (May-2008).
Leaves were main pt of attraction, bit leathery, whitish on the back.
This small shrub was around one meter tall. Do help me its Identification..

… has indicated that this shrub could be “Rivea Sp”. Could this be Rivea laotica??

Just a guess
Leaves remind me of Argyreia nervosa.

… your guess is right. It is Rivea Laotian.

Thanks …

From persual of refrences at Rivea & at link it appears that there is some taxonomic confusion & Rivea laotica in India may actually be Rivea ornata (Roxb.) Choisy- from me.
Comments are welcome.

Rivea ornata…. I think

It appears to me as Rivea ornata. We see in Seshachalam Hills of Tirupathi. Orbicular leaf with silky shiny pubescence make the species easily identifiable.

Requesting to please identify this wild plant with roundish leaves. no flowers or fruits were seen

It is an Argyreia species. (Convolvulaceae)

It reminds Menispermaceae member….wait for flowering

This is early stage of Rivea laotica Convolvulaceae.

Many thanks for the Id of this plant which has interesting leaves

It may be Rivea hypocrateriformis.

My thoughts are that the plant is too young to identify… it may be a Rivea, although many species frequently display changes in leaf shape as the plant matures…
I am aware of 3 accepted species of Rivea that are not reflected in IPNI…and those 3 species are :
Rivea ornata
Rivea hypocrateriformis
Rivea wightiana
Rivea laotica
was determined to be synonym of Rivea ornata
The Plant List, IPNI and Tropicos are very frustratingly almost constantly out dated (at leastregarding Convolvulaceae) and Tropicos frequently lists multiple accepted names for the same plant in violation of the IAPT code…
I would suggest any interested in clarifying Rivea species to review the following :
Mill, R. R., 1996:
Notes relating to the flora of Bhutan: XXXIV. Convolvulaceae.
Edinburgh Journal of Botany 53(2): 229-246
A Synopsis Of Rivea (Convolvulaceae)
Staples, G W.
Edinburgh journal of botany. VOL 64; Numb 2, ; (Jul 2007) , 213-224
Cambridge University Press

I have seen the detailed communication and I agree that the plant is too young to identify. But knowing the area (Talegaon Dabhade) very well, I am sure that this is Rivea laotica (as pointed out by … R.ornata & R. laotica are treated as synonyms but both the names are unresolved according to Plant List).
The Two Revias occuring in Talegaon are Rivea hypocrateriformis & R.laotica. These two Riveas clearly differ in habit, leaf size and shape & inflorescence. Following is the key from Flora of Maharashtra.
RIVEA Choisy
1. Woody climbers; peduncles usually 1 flowered; corolla glabrous outside ……………. .R. hypocrateriformis
1. Erect undershrubs or shrubs; peduncles usually 2- 7 flowered; corolla appressed hairy only along mid petaline bands ………….. R. laotica
I will post the images of these two Riveas revealing the these distinct characters.
Regarding the synonyms and correct names for R.laotica & R.ornata, I am not the right person who can comment on.

We can agree … comment. Thanks …

Rivea hypocrateriformis: I’d confirm : 4 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (1)- 3 MB.
Rivea hypocrateriformis

I too think of Rivea hypocrateriformis.

is it possible to see the whole plant, please and some flowers and seed pods. the reason is a herbarium specimen from a scientific paper shows leaves, shapes of which look a bit different from the two leaves above.

I think more close to images at Rivea ornata (Roxb.) Choisy in Hook. f. compared to those at Rivea hypocrateriformis (Desr.) Choisy as per comparative images and keys at Rivea
