Euphorbia milii Des Moul., Bull. Hist. Nat. Soc. Linn. Bordeaux 1: 27 1826. (Syn: Euphorbia bojeri Kl.; Euphorbia bojeri var. mucronulata Ram. Goyena; Euphorbia breonii Nois. [Illegitimate]);
.
Crown-of-thorns, Christ Plant, christ’s thorn, Kiss me not;
.
The plant tolerates drying out for almost a month, this promotes flowering. Cultivars varying in plant size and bract colour exist which may be white, cream, salmon, light red, and dull red bracts. !
.
The leaves are deciduous, obovate. Its inflorescence displays bicoloured, petal like bracks, with small yellow flowers inside.! The characteristic white sap is present;
.
Cacti strictly means plants of family Cactaceae, with areoles
surrounded by spines of various sizes and generally hairy/woolly within.
Most people find it difficult to separate succulent Euphorbia species which may have spines but not areoles.
There is one main difference between Cactaceae and other cactaceae like plants:
Cactus will never have leaves except for a genus called Pereskia.
Almost all other families with cactus like habit will have leaves.
In Cactaceae what looks like spines are actually modification of leaves, but in Euphorbiaceae spines are the modification of stipules.

The largest of the Crown of Thorns with 1″ orchid red blooms and large stiff canes creating a somewhat more upright mature specimen.
E. milii, a native to Madagascar, is a succulent, with thick, fleshy stems adapted for water storage. The stems are 5-7 sided, greyish-brown, branched & up to 2-3′ in height, with many prominent, grey 1″ spines. The leaves tend to be obovate (wider near the tip), up to 1½ long, but much larger (to 6″) in the Thai hybrids. They are spirally arranged, have smooth margins, & vary from bright green to grey-green. Foliage is present only on new growth.
E. milii var splendens is similar, but grows to 5-6′

Euphorbia milli or ‘Kiss-me’ plant

I wonder who gave this name, don’t kiss it unless you want to hurt your lips
Here are some
Jump up and kiss me ——– Viola sp., pansy
Kiss me quick ……….. Brunfelsia bonodora, Portulaca pilosa, Viola tricolor
Kiss me over the garden gate …….. Persicaria orientalis
Kiss me plant ………. Nematanthus sp.
Perhaps more can be found

agree with everything above…
saying it again…
not a cactus..
plant is from africa…
not the new world…
and thorns dont mean cactus…

Not to blame … most people think all spiny succulents as cacti, that is why Cacti and succulents are generally exhibited together in most exhibitions. Cacti strictly means plants of family Cactaceae, with areoles
surrounded by spines of various sizes and generally hairy/woolly within.
Most people find it difficult to separate succulent Euphorbia species which may have spines but not areoles.

There is one main difference between Cactaceae and other cactaceae llike plants

Almost all other families with cactus like habit will have leaves.

I think this may be some cultivated variety of E. milii Des Moul. only as per feedback from Balakrishnan ji in another thread:  Euphorbiaceae Fortnight : For ID : 071113 : AK-31
Though Euphorbia fianarantsoae looks similar as per images on net, I could not find the difference between the two.

Thanks, I’ll check them out.
