I think id is correct.

Yes … This appears to be C. calycina

This certainly looks like typical C. calycina. Nice pic to identify

I am not able to figure out if it is actually C. calycina or some other species. Help is appreciated.

This is C. calycina Schrank. Actually Gamble mentioned 4 types in calycina based on the nature of leaf and the altitude in which they occur. But these all are now reduced to synonymy based on other systematic data.

Habitat Grassland

The deflexed pedicels indicates Crotalaria calycina

Thank you … For the ID. But I hope pods included in sepals are a character of C.calycina?
Thank you once against for all the trouble.

Yes, it does look like Crotalaria mysorensis.

Does not matches with other images at Crotalaria mysorensis Roth

I think Its Crotalaria calycina

Pl. check at Crotalaria, if it is crotalaria.

Thank you Ji. It closely matches with Crotalaria mysorensis, but the leaf characteristics and the height of the plant is not matching.

Crotalaria calycina

Looks like Crotalaria calycina

I have collected Crotalaria calycina from Sirumalai Hills, Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu during January & August 2014 which is different from the Crotalaria species I have posted for the ID.
Attached herewith the photos of Crotalaria calycina collected from Sirumalai Hills (Eastern Ghats), Dindigul Dist., Tamil Nadu during 2014.
Kindly confirm the plant in the original post (from Shervarayan Hills, Salem Dist.) and the currently attached photos (Sirumalai Hills, Dindigul Dist.) are of Crotalaria calycina.

I have posted a Crotalaria sp. (Photos 1 and 2) with the below mentioned details for the ID and got the ID as Crotalaria calycina by …
Location: Foothills of Shervaroys (Part of Eastern Ghats), Salem District, Tamil Nadu
Date: 25-11-2015.
Altitude: ca 300 m asl.
I have also collected Crotalaria calycina (Photos 3 and 4) from Sirumalai Hills (Alt. 900 m asl), Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu during January & August 2014 which is different from the Crotalaria species (Photos 1 and 2) I have posted for the ID.
Kindly confirm the plants in the attached photos (1, 2) and (3, 4) are of Crotalaria calycina.

You are right in emphasising that these two sets look different, there are wide differences.
I hope identification will be reached, please see the link, my submission from Morni Hills, Haryana resemble your first set…they were also identified as Crotalaria calycina..

Thank you for the info and link. My first set of photos resemble the plants in the link.
Will wait for other expert members suggestion on these specimens.

It is Crotalaria epunctata Dalz.,

Thanks, … You mean the first two images.

In the absence of pod and flower earlier it is incorrectly identified; now the leaf and flower are clear; based on the features it is identified, it looks like C.mysorensis, but there are no stipules, crolla larger than calyx, based on these features it is identified

I think first two images may be of Crotalaria hirta as per images herein. Pl. validate.

In the absence of pod it may be a guess to validate, to me all 4 are of same plant species

I think leaves are different and hairy with different type of hairs. Both are different species to me.

Thank you … I am also having the same opinion. I will send some more photos with additional information soon.

Leaves does not seem to match with images at Crotalaria mysorensis

I think this must be Crotalaria calycina; dear friends, please validate.

I think the original ID is correct. It resembles C. mysorensis, especially the indumentum (hairyness) and calyx characters, rather than C. calycina.

Thank you very much … After reading through description in Flora of China and seeing crisp picture of your plant in flickr, I do not see the conspicuous stipule in my posted plant. Do the stipules have tendency to fall off ?

I guess not the correct ID !
POWO

Thanks very much …; I believe the posted plant is Crotalaria calycina Schrank.

Bright pictures showing the true hairy nature of the plant.
Can’t comment anything on the ID though.
Tried to check/ match the characters from books. Didn’t succeed much. The Key for Crotalarias only from Maharashtra is 3 and half pages and number of species …whooping 42 !!!
Requires field study also 🙁

… images are kept as Crotalaria hirta in efi.

Thank you … for clarifying and … for pointing it out.

Is it ok … ?

I am confused. The photograph of my plant in FOI is Crotalaria calycina.

The two species seem to be very confusing. But the fruit images of your plant look different from the POWO illustration of Crotalaria calycina

… images are also at

It looks like I missed a few posts that were discussing IDs of my Crotalaria photos. 🙂
I will check all related posts and revise my notes accordingly.

For me there is still no clarity on what … plant is.

I request members to compare Crotalaria mysorensis and Crotalaria calcyna images in Net.

The pods in … plants are without any calyx covering:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/dinesh_valke/5284992611/
Pods of Crotalaria caylcina are supposed to be “oblong, black when ripe, 2.5 x 0.8 cm, hairless, equal to calyx”, according to An Excursion Flora of Central Tamilnadu. So, it doesn’t look like it will be C. calycina.

The plant in the link (https://www.flickr.com/photos/dinesh_valke/5284992611/) is different.
Plant we are talking about is at photograph of my plant in FOI is Crotalaria calycina.

Images from Amba Ghat are of Crotalaria epunctata Dalzell as per Id by … in another thread: Fabaceae (Faboideae) Fortnight :: Crotalaria calycina :: n Western Ghats :: DVOCT31

Okay, so the two are different plants. That clears some of my confusion.

In … plant at Sajjangad, the calyx looks smaller than that in some other images of Crotalaria calycina

To me, … plant as Sajjangad appears closer to Crotalaria mysorensis

Not C.mysorensis as no stipules are seen.

I was interpreting the marked objects as stipules. Maybe not.

I do not see such things in the other photograph.
May be it is a new emerging branch.
